IDNs have been in use for about 10 years in many languages. Many of my IDN domains have type in traffic. Some up to 100 per day. You can read about some of the history at idndemystified dot com

We heard the day before yesterday that India is already prepared to launch IDN.IDN for their 22 languages.

नाम.com was regged back in 2006 by native of India. .net is also regged.

I have a few Hindi domains that I will hold on to. English is the business language of India, but the majority do not speak it. Within the next 5 years there will be about 500 million+ smart phone users in India that do not speak english, so the market may explode at that time for IDNs in India.

Sure, a couple of days ago at the ICANN meeting in Sydney, during one of the IDN fastrack meetings
Ravi Shanker from GAC from India spoke:

Quote:

">>RAVI SHANKER: I hope we have time for one more question. Ravi
Shanker, member of the GAC from India. I would like to emphasize a few
points that the perspective would be different for different countries.

In my country, we have 22 official languages, and we have done the
whole course of trying to emphasize this aspect to the GAC community,
when the number of IDN ccTLDs were to be introduced, and then it became
an accepted principle that all official languages would be
incorporated, and the ICANN board also accepted that recommendation. .....

Now, $25,000, if I did a mental calculation, it's $300,000 for 22
languages. Languages are an emotive issue, and when we came to the
table, 22 languages, because all of them are official, we had to take
the whole together.

Now, the next stage is to take the process together.

I must emphasize that we did a lot of homework prior to coming to the
GAC community and then the next stage. Homework on developing the IDN
philosophy in a technical and community manner was done.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=591855

We are prepared. The same registry who is operating the dot in has
been mandated to operate all the 22 IDN ccTLDs. " end quote

IDN.IDN means that instead of .com you will have cctld's that are non-english characters, first representing the countries of the world. If you do a little research on IDN.IDN then ask me more questions if you have them.
