It says free, but it tries to charge me

Hopefully this will help:

The best place to start is to search for a domain and order it. Loopia will then ask you to create an account and you can go from there.

1. From Loopia.se -> go to the tab "Domännamn" (meaning "Domain names")

2. In the red box towards the middle where it says "Sök domännamn" ("Search domain names"), enter a domain to check (no extenstion). Make sure it's an IDN. If you don't have anything in mind at the time use "söksöksök" (means "searchsearchsearch") or something similar that will be available. This first domain will actually be your log-in so if you want something else choose now. Click "Sök".

3. Skip number 1. Select your domain in the .se extension. Skip number 3. And click "gå vidare" (means "go further").

4. Leave everything as is and click "Nästa" (next)

5. On number 2 - select "Endast registrering av domännamn." (only register domain name). The default option is "Domännamn samt webbhotell" (domain and hosting). Leave everything else the same and click "Nästa". - IMPORTANT

6. This is the final page. Enter your information. You can cut and paste the various labels into a translator (like Systranet.com) to find out exactly what they mean. After you're done click "Beställ" (order) and you should be done. I believe you'll get your password through email.

Once you have opened an account, you should be able to switch the language to English. I'll post a how-to on that later (it's easy).

Disclaimer: I don't speak Swedish so all of this is from using an online translator and working through each screen, but I believe it is correct.

Have you registered a domain using this method? Do they take PayPal?

I opened an account before the promotion so I already had my credit card on file. I've registered domains after the promotion started and haven't been charged for them.

I don't believe they take PayPal though.

When does the password come in?

I have one term in both .com and .se and the .se gets about 1.5x the traffic of the .com.

Once you've logged into your account you can switch the default language to English:

1. From the "Administrera" page on your account, click on the "Mitt Loopiakonto" (My Loopia Account) tab

2. Click on "Språkinställningar" (Language Settings)

3. Choose "English" from the pulldown menu and click "Spara"

Ok.... So how long did it take to finalize, from beginning to end. How long did you have to wait after they sent you an email confirming your order?


BTW - Thanks ahead of time......Still figuring out how to log in now to change the cp to English.

It may take a day or two after you place your order for the domain to become active.

Changing nameservers can be a little quirky so let me know if there are problems.

How long did it take for them to email your password?

Btw - I guess I also did something wrong. Because there was a charge on it. On the bill it didnt leave a 0 balance. Or will that be corrected later. Because I made sure the extension was a .se.

PS - I will be patient on waiting for the password. It's just curiousty thats all.

Sorry, I don't remember how long it took to get the password but I'm thinking a day or two would not be unusual.

Oh, and the emails are in Swedish so make sure you have your translators handy.

Don't forget, it is only IDNs that are free. Anything else you will be charged for. Also, make sure you deselect the option to include hosting - hosting is NOT free.

If you email their support in English, they will answer in English, and they have been very helpful to me so far.

I am seeing consistant traffic on some of mine, and no traffic on others...

PS - Charley, that's roughly a $215 invoice that you have, you may want to email them and explain that you didn't want hosting (unless you did want it, of course).

As domainstosell said, I think it's important to stress again that only IDN.se are free! ASCII.se are not and neither is hosting. Please be sure to uncheck the hosting option.

And please make sure you know what you are buying. Online translators are available so read each page carefully.

Just don't put your credit card there and it will go fine with you. I have bought now tons of domains. All domains which are free are .se and they MUST contain ä, ö or å.

I have registered like 50 now and recieved like 25 from them. VERY VERY NICE OFFER.

You've ordered 12 months on a windows webserver (790 SEK) plus the setup fee (295 SEK) and one domain name (110 SEK) and then plus 25% tax...

Make sure you follow all steps in thefabfive's "walkthrough" and especially note the ones about changing to "domain only". Also, the domain you're ordering have to be an IDN.

I believe you can also order domains with "é" and similair stuff
