I think that first one actually means something more like "songs". Still kicks ass tho.

ThaiIDN, do you have any insight into NIPA? This is an ongoing problem for me regarding Thai IDN domains.

Is this a government policy associated to Thaksin regime? I wish they would figure out that its better to promote using the language on the Internet...

I realize the market is getting better. The situation I refer to affects you too though. For some Thai residents with DSL service, it seems that the ISPs are being coerced by the government (NIPA) to redirect the IDN requests. This artificially reduces the audience size on Thai IDN sites.

That's why I'm hoping ThaiIDNs is really someone with some insight into this, and not just thegenius1 opening a new account to comment.

That is not good insight. I doubt a domainer like genius would open another account here. There is no reason for that. I guess we are all dreaming about thai names getting clicks and money and that the stats in namedrive are all fake.

Why are you getting all defensive? No one's trying to rain on your parade. Thai IDNs are getting better and better. I'm trying to find out about a situation I'm concerned about, and this guy may actually know something about the situation with NIPA.

There is no universal solution to the languages problem.

There are numerous online dictionaries and translators and many are free.

Nipa is a private company as far as I know. They do toolbars, and have some kind of keyword advertising service. I presume the keyword service "hijacks" keywords (for "participating ISPs") typed into the address bar, and sends them to URLs that pay Nipa to advertise. But that's a completely different thing from hijacking IDNs with the ".com" on the end. I have never heard of this, and don't believe it happens.

Yeah I have a clarification. I have some thai word.com domains and when they type in only the thai word (no dot-com), using a certain near-ubiquitous ISP in BKK they are redirected instead of just going to TTTT.com -

For example I have one that means culture and if the .com is omitted the users there get the requests sent to the ministry of culture. I can't figure it out unless the ISP is redirecting the traffic at the behest of the government. Can you verify this, or offer some different explanation for this weirdness?

IE sends the type ins to MSN search anyway

I don't know why this is a big deal. Internet Explorer default sends typed in keywords (minus a dot extension) to MSN Search anyway. Who hijacks the traffic is of no consequence really, someone will always hijack it. Type-ins are about type-in + extension.

If you use Firefox, you get redirected to the top search result at Google. That is more than likely the cause of what you are seeing? No government conspiracy.

But whatever, it is like Rhys says i.e. if just a keyword is typed into the address bar, it really doesn't matter where it ends up, this type of traffic will also be the subject of competition as it is seen as "fair game" for redirection.
