Quick Photoshop 7.0 question $50 NP bucks offered

Hello. I am needing a bit of help. I am wanting to take a single image and place it on a plain white background. I am new at this, so the simplest directions would be appreciated. I will give $50 NP in return for your time. Thank you

What does your single image look like? Is it on a transparent background, some non-white background, or is on some complex background that needs to be removed and replaced with white?

It is a black dress that I am trying to high-light the details of. It is against a wall. Thanks

1. Find picture
2. Open in web browser
3. Right click -> Copy image
4. Photoshop -> File -> New (leave settings as they are, just make sure the "Background" option is set to "White" rather than transparent)
5. Edit -> Paste
6. Select Magic Wand tool from Toolbox (2nd from top in 2nd column).
7. Click on "wall" of image (the non-dress part).
8. Press "Delete" key.

Done?

If you use that method you're going to have to experiment with the settings for the magic wand in order to delete all of the wall without deleting part of the dress and probably select and clean up spots of black in the wall (to do that, circle those spots with the "lasso tool" - 2nd from top on the left - click and drag to outline an area, then press delete).

A more exact way to do this would be to manually select the areas you want to delete. To do this you can begin as above, but use the lasso tool instead of the magic wand. Click and drag around each part you want to delete, releasing the mouse button when you get back to where you started, then click the delete key. Repeat as needed.

It helps to magnify the image (use the zoom tool - the little magnifying glass in lower right of the tool panel) so you can see what you're selecting.

Another way to do this is using the Extract filter.This is trickier to use, but the best choice in certain situations:

- Filter -> extract
- Use the highlighter tool (magic marker -upper left) to highlight the edge of the dress. Include the background AND dress in the parts you're highlighting.
If you need to make the highlight area larger, see Options - Size on the right side of the panel. Make sure your highlight line is a closed shape.
- Pick the paint bucket (2nd from the top on the left) and click inside the highlighted area (on the dress).
- Click "Preview" (top right) - if you like what you see, click "OK". Otherwise, go back and tweak your selection. OR, you can use the cleanup tool and edge touchup tool (5th and 6th from the top left in the preview panel) to clean up the image. Use cleanup tool to erase parts of the wall, use the edge touchup tool to bring back edges of the dress that were accidently deleted.
