If you want to design flash, i think the only option you have is getting Adobe Flash. It's a proprietary technology so you'd have to obtain the program necessary somehow (I'm not saying buy it... if you catch my drift...) if you want to work with Flash.

however, if you want to work with animations, one (not the best) choice would be to get something to make GIF images (I'm not sure but maybe gimp? never tried it, just google it) and use it like that.

I see - I hadnt realised that only one software was capable of producing Flash, which until now I had thought was more generic, eg html. I will look into Flash and animated gifs. I dont mind spending a couple of hours getting to grips with something if its quicker afterwards to use.

just so you know, animated gifs are nowhere NEARLY as powerful as flash is. gifs usually have crappy quality, and you have to do most of the animations by hand, or frame by frame.

i strongly suggest getting Adobe Flash CS3 (or whatever version) somehow if you want to get into web animation, as this is the leading technology. Other things like Microsoft Silverlight exist, but thats completely locked down by microsoft and i dont think they even have a software to make silverlight animations on the open market.

Would 3 hours following a tutorial of some sort on Adobe Flash CS3 allow me to make snazzy signs?
