Advertiser URLs to block on Adsense?

We have been using Adsense for a couple of years now. When we started out we used the Competetive Ad Filter to list (and block) our competitors ads from showing up on our Adsense sites. We have also used it to block URLs like (all are dot coms) Business, Shopping, Ebay, Webcrawler etc. These advertisers don't really click to anything specific for our online readers, they just lead to directory style sites.

Does anyone know how well (or not) these type of sites pay in PPC? Is it best to block them and try and not to crowd out the maybe better paying more relevant advertisers?

Thanks for asking. We are in the heritage restoration, "old house" renovation field. I know there are lots of smaller advertisers around for this niche (not exactly a mega-paying field I know..) and wondered if the more generic non-specific big guys (like my original post) were squeezing out advertisers that might convert better, as our very targeted audience might want to click more.

there probably aren't that many advertisers around so i'd just let them be if possible.

Cancer Survivorship
If you're not getting relevant ads from them it won't help your CTR. Those types usually bid on a huge number of keywords and generally don't bid very high so between those two factors you're probably not missing much by blocking them.

Go with what's best for your visitors - personally, I'd block them. With the possible exception of eBay, and you may do better signing with them as an affiliate and using their editor kit to display listings closely related to your content. Lots of people selling antique hardware etc. on there.

Are you offering renovation services or is this an informational site? If you're selling your services I wouldn't be in any hurry to send potential new business offsite in exchange for a few cents of Adsense.
