Leaderboard on forum above and below first post

Do you guys think forum members can tolerate a leaderboard ad both above the first post and below the first post in a thread? I have read that is where they do best in forum threads, but I explained my intention to do it to somebody and they said it might repel members because breaking up the thread by putting an ad below the first post would make the whole thing look like an ad.

What do you think?

Can I get away with

<ad 1>
POST 1
<ad 2>
POST 2
POST 3
POST 4

or should I leave it

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/google-adsense/531340-leaderboard-forum-above-below-first-post.html

Repelling members wouldn't be worth the additional impressions, but if it wouldn't mean repelling members than I'd love the additional impressions! Thank you

choose either above or below first post, it's kinda redundant usually it will be skipped if like that but if your forum is really a good resource people will stay.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Wayne, (l2ride55), do you find better results with the 120 x 600 on the left than on the right? Had you tested it with both? Have you found 120 x 600 to perform better than 160 x 600, or had you not tried the latter?

Also, does the 728X15 link perform better in that position than a banner or leaderboard, or do you use that there rather than a larger ad simply for aesthetics?

Sorry to nitpick, but it outperforms 160 x 600 on the left as well? Thank you for your advice... I'm finally seeing some traffic and am trying to squeeze some coin from it!

Unique visitors from search engines and others places are the once who would click on ads. forum members seldom click on them so it won't me a problem.
