As far as I know Directi now put their names through Answerable but I'm not 100% certain

If you got to answerable.com website it shows "a Directi Business" within their logo, You could try them or phone answerable and ask.

Try resellerclub.com. It's part of Directi and once you have an account you should be able to have the domain pushed to you.

but you'll have to purchase a plan at ResellerClub which isn't free. Those guys keep calling me every week hoping they'll convince me to 'activate my account' (paying a $149.99 activation fee, I believe)

I didn't have to pay an activation fee when I joined. If they have that now then you should only sign up under another reseller like me. The basic slab cost is $199, but you get that in credit to purchase domains and services. If you want to have a reseller account, I think it's one of the best. If you just want to buy cheap domains, I would go with Dynadot.com
