Wow thats an old article 1999

But to get on with it, Real Player, WinAmp, and WindowsMedia Player (others probably do as well, but these three are the biggest around), all do the same thing in regards to this, they all send request pretty much the same to the server with info about what you are listening and a unique identifier.

As well, when you install, and accept terms and conditions you allow them to do this, ( winamp i believe has an option to not allow them to collect this info).

Regards
Brian

That is correct winamp ask you during installation if you wish to allow them to collect the information which they claim is anonymous.

realplayer is one of the worst of the spyware apps out there. It completely spawns itself into all sorts of folders to make it as difficult as possible to remove. I haven't used it for years because of that.

Thanks for the kind warning Wanda.

I hate spyware, took me about a week to hunt down the source on my system where CoolWebSearch was hiding at. I kept deleting the files and after reboot they'd always be right back and affected eBay and a few other sites.

I'm curious if anyone knows if "RealPlayer" is owned by RealMedia.com

If so.. mind you.. RealMedia.com is owned by 247RealMedia.com
which is owned by none other then KANOODLE..

Guess that's why Kanoodle is now introducing "behaviour" marketing ??

this is very disturbing news.. in my opinion..

Real Media is the same company who previously put live ads on ntl’s customer internet portal ntlworld.com that informed customers that their machines were infected with a virus. It was later revealed this ad was for “testing” and should never have gone live.
