I think this TV forum 'had its day' but after a long period where mods allowed the constant anti-tv baiting on almost every thread started, most of the regulars simply upped sticks and went to other forums.

What was the point in mentioning you had a $10k sale when the next post trolled every aspect of the sale rather than gave a 'well done'.

The loss of Ray as the moderator was also a big factor.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/746252-has-tv-forum-had-its-day.html

The fact today is there is always a constant number of those with an interest in .TV at places like the Allthings Tv forum but hardly any here - unless there is major major news.

However, it looks like the new management under the able leadership of Matt have made a good start to improving the situation across the whole of the Namepros forum.

Whether the .tv section can be revived is another matter.

I think most of the one-time regulars would love to come back to a forum which they all trust and have fond memories. A place where information can, as it was in the past, be shared.

While nothing seems to be going on here about the world of .tv the fact still remains that in the real world the outlook for .tv names is still excellent and the size of the sales have been quite outstanding.

Sadly, for those who might otherwise have been able to simply look in here and see what was going on, that info, or most of it, is shared elsewhere at the moment.

If the section disappeared I don't think many would notice. The people who should be using it are not here very often anyway.

Look around! There were eight .tv sales announced in DNJournal this week including Horoscope and Horoscopes at $16000 - but not ONE mention here.

I certainly hope not hullswingers, but I must admit it has gone very quiet for some time.

Perhaps we've all got the winter blues and feeling more fed up with the recession etc.

Do domains sales go in patterns like the stockmarkets, and if so are we in a slight lull maybe.

Although like James has just said, some really good sales this last week.

I will try and think up some really difficult questions for the tv forum in the coming months :-)

Definitely not.
There are changes that the place could probably benefit from but I think a simple kill would be most ignorant.
Who cares about the .tv haters, I for one applaud them.
".TV is rubbish, nothing to see here move along everyone move along"

I guess the person who just paid $18.5k for one of my .tv's just didnt get the memo.

...people with differing views pro and con can help the process of improving techniques to popularize the extension. Unfortunately, sometimes those with differing perspectives carry with them such an obnoxious attitude that it can actually defeat the purpose of the forum.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=746252

Never too little nor too late to achieve the goal of what this .tv forum was meant for.

Fact of the matter is...this section can revitalize itself with the proper direction and effort. There are great members and staff who have that desire and that is where it begins...

And dont underestimate the people that stuck with this section while there was a foe to battle with then moved on when there wasnt a foe to battle anymore.

Animal Rescue
Hello All,

I've been silent for a number of months now. I was dealing with a health issue which required I take a medication named Prednisone. In addition to a number of nasty side effects, it seemed to impede my will to write. I'm off the Pred now and feeling much better.

Having gotten into domains in the mid-nineties as well as having launched two successful online businesses in 1996, I have weathered a few storms. Soon after the dot com meltdown in 2000, I saw a complete change of attitude towards the internet at apparel trade shows. Many who didn't understand the dynamics of the Net, assumed it was a fad whose time had come and gone. Lots of folks lost faith in domain names at that time too. There were some great deals to be had back then.

I didn't loose faith then, and I have not lost faith now. There are naysayers who go as far as saying that domain names are a thing of the past. I say hogwash, with all due respect to hogs. Some say that dot com is all that matters. To me thats like saying that Fifth Avenue is all that matters in retail. While it's nice to have a Fifth Avenue flagship store, many get their start and make a good living on Melrose.

In summary, times are tough, money is in shorter supply, budgets are being cut, jobs have been lost and priorities are being readdressed. Domain portfolios are being consolidated by some while others are taking advantage of, what might turn out to be unusually good opportunities.

For those who can make it through these trying times, I believe a better day will come. In my opinion, there has been steady growth for the .tv extension since the metamorphosis in 2010, in spite of the world economy. And the Internet itself is more important now than it ever was.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=746252

As always, we are at the mercy of the world economy. If there is a catastrophic failure of the world economic system then hardly any assets will perform well, except for, perhaps, carpenter's sets and basements full of MREs.

This is just one man's opinion and I respect the opinions of others. I hope to be more active in this forum once again.

Best,

Claude

Rookie .TV Domainer of the Year 2007

I think the economy is partially to blame. Holding 1000's, even 100's of domains is cost prohibitive. I only have about 40 domains total from all TLD's.

I have only sold 3 names in the last year and a half.

You sent me a pm on how to get videos and pictures .....i answered and offered some handy tips , are you trying to develop

You gotta put the feelers out sometimes and you may be surprised at what you get in return.

This is a .tv forum, which means there should perhaps be open discussion on how to develop our .tv names

Example is that i recently asked in the website development section how i could change the worldpress widget 'read more' to something more suitable for a .tv site.

Pleased to say that some folk offered suggestions that were enough to help me make the change and now my site has the words 'to the videos' instead ......happy enough to show that the site is video based and it a .tv for that reason, some of the name regsitered here have never made sense so there is no point in complaining when no one wants to buy 'fruitbats.tv' ...... no idea who owns that but you get my point i hope?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=746252

Point is that i would have happily posted this question here if i thought there would have been a good response, we can change that !

Hey Hull,

Good to see you back.

Hey Claude,
Great to see you back. Best of luck to you in your health.

Now to answer the original question...
Shut this TV Forum down? LOL
Whachoo talkin bout Willis - This Forum will NEVER die!

Dot TV has always had an absolute insane amount of excitement.

Dot TV has always had something right around the corner that has kept us all talking, all the time. Right now is the first time in a couple of years that there is nothing seriously exciting to look forward to immediately around the corner. Heres a couple exciting dot tv examples in the past coupla years...

Dot TV Registrations were expensive, and Dynadot was the first registrar to lower down reg's to like $12.99 then everyone followed suit.

Landrush, and Goldrush happened. Serious domains at a fraction of the cost.

No more Premiums!

Verisign releases over 100 dot tv's that were always held by the registry, and has a massive Sedo/Verisign auction.

Business sells for over 100k

Heart Internet lowers reg fees to the lowest reg price ever...$8 each!

People start figuring out the Drop/Backorder Premium dot tv game.

Verisign releases MORE Dot TV domains for yet another auction, and this time tons of LL's are for the first time released and auctioned off, for peanuts!

There are a few of the things we have had to constantly write about and be excited about. Right now, things are back to normal.

People are concentrating on their renewals now, and there is nothing that we can see immediately around the corner...but mark my words, when something cool happens again, this place will be busy as usual.

although Im not sure it will matter because the world IS suppose to end this year right?

Think there is no need to close this subforum cause there are still people at NP who are thinking that you can't be succesfull domainer in .tv
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=746252

Seriously, after the big bump in the march 2010 and all that crazy activity here at NP now domainers are busy selling/waiting for the buyers and catching names.

Good sales are the reality now, so people are less exciting and are less emotional.

Plus there are no naysayers here - so there is no need to argue

Big .tv dogs are busy with choosing the color of their new Maserati

This subforum is still a nice place, people are coming here - at least I'm checking it every day.

And one more thing - there is NO other so popular d2d marketplace for .tv domains in the net
