Dynadot shoots self in foot

Looks like they raised the .tv renewal price back to year ago levels.

My price was 21.95 now 31.95. Do they seriously think they'll make more money by doing this? Matter of fact I worry about the long-term viability of a registrar that behaves like this.
I had been planning to keep all my names there but now I'm moving them all out.

Happy New Year indeed!

Probably more to do with their agreement with Verisign - I'd be interested to know what drives what pricing.

I hope you're not planning on moving out your premiums Good Luck with that!

Just remewed a .tv at godaddy, with a coupon found here at np, it set me back $24.95, not too bad.

Generally agree but they emailed before price increment in order to make transfers/renewals there with $21.95 till 31th of December.
I think this offer will be back again during 2012. Except godaddy with coupons still can not find easily prices under $25 for renewals/transfers.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=742099
Still dyna is $9.99/r new registrations though.

I think if we will email dynadot to keep old pricing we have nothing to loose.

I never used Dynadot. I just go for namecheap, godaddy, name.com, etc. Better you should transfer your names to some other registrar.

I would prefer to create some PHP script to manage my names then paying extra money. And there are many other 3rd party sites available too. SO management is not a big deal.

Every domain registrar has it pros and cons, you can't judge dynadot if you never used them.

I am just judging them on the basis of price issues raised by the OP.

defaultuser is correct. We were able to offer a promotional price for .tv domains because of a collaborative effort with Verisign. Unfortunately the promotion ended but we'll try to do something for you guys in 2012.

yeah. but the trouble with their "promo" price: its the same price i already get at other top quality registrars. so when they go back to their normal price i find it ridiculous. if they were just a buck or 2 more i wouldnt neccesarily be so quick to move names out but 10 dollars more!?! f that.

btw- some people mentioned namecheap as an alternative. they're actually an enom reseller. the only diff is you pay 2 bucks more (if you have an enom reseller acct) and you dont get enoms cust svc.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=742099

of course a lot of domainers here are in the game for flips. keep in mind that when you're trying to sell a name i do pay attn to where its registered and discount the amount i'm willing to pay accordingly, and though they may not express it a lot of pros feel the same way.

my pick for best registrar: enom

However, at 10 bucks a pop, I'm willing to suffer a little bit and use my brain to figure out the nuances of control panels at other registrars...nothing like a money grab to motivate people to work a little harder to save hard-earned money.

I guess dynadot thinks otherwise, time will tell.

I think Name.com is far superior to Enom, its not even close imo,I actually think enom is not very good at all and they are raising prices.

The customer service at Name.com is awesome, imho.

Dynadot has the easiest panel in the world.

Prices are equivalent for .TV now more or less.

GoDaddy I hate.

ENOM is a pain in the A$$ but their .TV prices aren't too bad all in all.. just don't expect any flexibility.

Opinion on ENOM likely depends on whether you have invested $500 in names there like I have or $100Ks like others

Name.com does have great svc, but $35/yr renewals suck. I've never had any svc problems at enom that wernt resolved reasonably fast and well.

Email Received Today:

As of January 31st, 9 pm Pacific Time our prices for new registrations of .tv domain names will increase from $9.99 per year (first year) to $34.99 regular, $32.99 bulk, and $31.99 super bulk.

We apologize for the late notice. We are still working with the central registry to try to secure better pricing; we'll let you know if and when this happens.

I just received the same email.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=742099

My email was time-stamped at 4:55pm
The price increase happens at 9pm Pacific time...so basically Dynadot is raising their prices on new tv reg's by 350% and gave me a few hours notice.

I have always been a very huge fan of dynadot but this move today was just not cool.

Dynadot have the best panel by far, but seems they studied marketing in Albania.

I think they should learn the basics... you can`t raise prices 350%. Totally insane.

I don't know why dynadot account panel is easy for you, but for me it isn't.
Just to mention that for pushing a domain you have to do so many steps.
Also the user panel design (if we can talk about a design) isn't that good (in fact it is bad)
Anyway, I do respect dynadot as a major registrar in the internet.
I don't like namecheap as they dream to compete with godaddy, but they are light-year away from godaddy lol.
