Bets.tv and advertising on sedo's homepage, .............does it pay?

Hello all,

I am new on here and this is only my 2nd posting.

My son Kim (blackjack21) got me into domaining about 4 years ago and has been reading your posts to me this last few years, as I am not very computer literate.

However, he made me sign up and use the computer, which I like doing a lot, although, really do need a lot more help from him.

My first post was removed due to confusion, however, here is my 2nd post.

I have just sold Bets.tv on sedo for $3999, which I got off Kim, who I believe got off someone here.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/734671-bets-tv-advertising-sedos-homepage-does.html

I advertised it on sedo’s homepage and luckily it sold.

However, I have advertised 9 other domains this year on Sedo, and only 1 sold this way.

Do any other members, use sedo’s front page advertising, and if so, do they think it pays to do so.

Many thanks for this forum.

I am nearly 90 and still want to learn.

Thanks to all,

Robert

Thanks Ipod and slumdog for the feedback.

I am grateful to you Ipod for the domain, via my son.

I am sorry that you were not as lucky as I have been.

Maybe the sedo advertising does pay off after all.

Any more views on this one by all other members.?

Hi Robert,

It really comes down to the quality of the name and if the right buyer comes along... You will obviously get better exposure using the advertising.. but it really just depends on the right circumstances.. Some really great domains dont sell on there for months as well...

Well done anyways..

Cheers.

nothing is guaranteed when it comes to domaining, some will say you have done well with your strike rate and if you are already making a profit you might wish to share some of your secrets with us young folk !

.....good stuff

You could also try approaching endusers via a google search

Congrats.. Bets.tv was a great buy and many of us would of paid well over what it was sold for here I think. I missed buying it by about 20 mins when it was posted here..
Anyway, great ROI and the way your going you might get domainer of the year from the sales your getting on Sedo.. Not bad for a 90 year old! : )

Congrats on a sale Robert! Really great return of investment!

Talking about Sedo front page advertising - I used it twice in the very beginning, with zero results. Don't think that I would use it in future (as well as any Sedo service that I need to pay for).

Good luck with your other domains!

Thanks everyone for your feedback,

I must admit i did like bets.tv from the start and thought i was on to a winner early on.

I will probably look back and wishes i had not sold it, but that is obviously the way it goes with domains.

I must admit i am reluctant to keep handing sedo $70 to keep advertising on their site, just to give them lots of commision, when my advert is the one that sells the name.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=734671

You would think they would knock off the price of the advert if the domain sold.

It does not inspire you to take chances.

Anyway thanks for all your help.

As for domainer of the year. .... That would be Grand.

I'm nearly 90, and I could tell all my frineds (1) that I has been banned from a forum, and also domainer of the year. Yippee... maybe their is more in me yet. Who knows.

Oh, and as someone asked, about my secrets on selling.

Yes i have one, "Pray, really loud"

Take care Robert :-0

Congratulations Robert! Funny enough, I assisted my 91 year old uncle with purchasing a few .TVs. He made his first sale a couple of months back with Genus.tv for almost $2k. He has some nice names in his portfolio such as: update.tv, plant.tv and plants.tv and PO.tv.

I was curious, did you have an asking price, a fixed price or no price at all for bets.tv? Thank you in advance.

Keep up the good work.

Claude

I have paid to appear on Sedo’s homepage 3 or 4 times and didn't find it lead to sales. I think sales have more to do with the quality of the domain and asking price

Old,,,, Old,, What’s with the old.

The last person who called me old, ended up “sleeping with the fishes”, and the one before that is part of a bridge support on the M62 motorway.

Does anybody else think I am old?

I like to think of my self as the “wise one”, with years of experience.

Actually I know lots of old people and they are not very wise, but that’s another story.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=734671

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Believe it or not “Claudedauman” but I too, was trying to get “plant.tv”.

I thought it would be ideal for a garden centre.

My asking price on sedo was $2999 with a buy it now, however my son said advised me to increase the asking price by $500 every 3 days, as he could see a lot of interest taking part and he thought this would cause someone to play their hand.

I increased it twice over 6 days, and lo and behold someone did bite at the line I had put out.

Kim said this would cause people to get nervous, because they saw the price keep going up, a bit like an ebay auction. (That lads wasted you know)

As someone once said, “he will end up a millionaire or end up in prison”, ,,, he’s in prison at the moment…………

By the way, someone from Argentina had offered me $1500 four weeks before the sedo advert, but Kim said it would be best to sell on sedo.

I think you are right “vserver centre”, and it is all to do with the name in question and not the advertising on sedo. I have lost about $600 on sedo adverts, and I am now thinking very carefully as to which domains I put forward for this medium.

Thanks evitual1 for your feedback,,, ( by the way, have you any choice as to which bridge you would like?)……….I’m not too sure about spilling the beans, as I do not know that much. I just ask Kim and he suggests things.

The only advice I would say is stick to short domains, 2, 3 and four letters are best, and stick to good quality generic, products, or in the case of bets, a service that is high in demand, such as gambling etc.

Hope this helps.

I love this forum, especially being such an oldie,,,, ooops I meant a wise one.

Take care all

Robert

I like Rod.tv (nice and short) I think this will pay dividends for you in the future.

Don't worry, Australia is a bit too far even for me. :-)

By the way, has anyone on here had any luck with Godaddy auctions?

Thanks lincolndsp and evirtual1.

Yes technology is a new learning ground for me, and learning is hopefully what keeps me alive these days.

I just wish technology would give me a new set of lungs, and a new heart at my age, but alas that is probably asking to much, even for todays boffins.

Keep up the good work all.
