Thumbs up TheDomains: Guys.TV, Medical.TV, Makeover.TV

TheDomains dot com is reporting on a new company from Norway called Prime.TV, that's creating many .TV websites. It's very interesting.

I checked out Prime.TV's site a few nights ago. It's very nice, and they have a ridiculous number of high quality .TVs, but some parts of the site still don't seem finished (i.e., some of the links didn't lead to landing pages for the actual names).

I have to say, I haven't been domaining for that long and only recently discovered the power of .TV. I knew it had potential, but with all of the development, it's really gained a lot of visibility in the last year.

Hats off to the wise investors who saw this coming early on.

I like .TV, and most of the names I've bought this week have been .TV and .ME. The future is bright!

I didn't get the sense that they were developing channels at all. I figured it was all a way to showcase their .TVs for sale, and provide marketing ideas. It's a very slick, nice looking website. But I got the idea they wanted to sell/lease these names to TV channels and/or developers.

Success would be the "Cherry" on top and we could go to the TV "hof"!

When will we Launch? That's "TBA"!
EXACTLY!

I swear to god DU, I will go in on that idea with you tomorrow!

I just went to this guys site.
Hes got some great domains.

The thing is, he put up a VERY Professional looking site. No one here has done anything as flashy as that, as of yet.

But I have to high five the guy, because unfortunately he did it before I did!

DU, If you're serious, I'm in bro.

Well it was thedomains.com who picked up on them, he did not boast anything. I think its too ambitious to think you will build a network out all at once. You need to first get the best idea up and prove the concept. Its hard to make one site successful, five or ten or more without a large bankroll and team of talented people is probably not going to happen. Again IMO

I agree 100%

Ya really have to give the owner of Prime a ton of credit though. Out of each and every one of my TV peers portfolio's here, I have never seen anything look any better than that site, at all.

Most likely anyone who visits there will remember at least one or 2 dot tv's.

I hope that when you guys see my whole portfolio listed somewhere one day, the site will look half as flashy/appealing as Primes site.

Now the other question is do they really believe they can build all these out ?

You are either someone with 100 names and you are a salesman, put together leads and start contacting them to sell the 100 names.

If you are developing than you have 100 businessess and its hard to make one business successful.

Sometimes I think some use subliminal marketing, hoping someone else will read their idea and say " I could take Makeover.tv for example, and I could turn it into this because of my experience in the field." So they get an offer and sell saying the name was further down the list. Nothing wrong with that and I think its smart. Again IMO

I actually think I do that with each and every domain I buy. Even if I just buy a domain to flip, I still have a vision of how I want that domain to come to life...and Yes, I do always believe that others wil see the same ideas I see in my domains too. Sometimes works, sometimes not,
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=696866

I just have one question though.

I went to makeover.tv and it was forwarded to prime so I am just gonna assume all of their domains are forwarded to prime.

Now, I always thought this was a better idea but let me know if I am wrong.

Links are as important as traffic so, why not take all of your domains...and have a landing page on each individual domain saying Hi, welcome to makeover.tv , we are a channel of the Prime Network.

Now you just created another valuable link to your main site.
Wouldn't that be better?

I call it subliminal DU because they will post on blogs saying not for sale. We have our vision. That is becoming the thing it seems lately with a few others posting comments on thedomains and elliotsblog. They all have a million names and a million ideas but nothing launched.

I think you are fine doing what you want to do Vito, you would not be doing that in the thousands like Epik which also had other issues. But look people here blasted the video portal, Rob told me personally he has spoken to Google, not emailed, SPOKEN to Google and they are liking the video portal. Who knows what to believe anymore in this business.

I couldn't find any info on the website that Prime.TV will develop all domains at once or launch them all at once. One project at a time is the way to go, but fronting the .TV real estate has never been a drawback in terms of marketing as far as I know.

Anyways, that's just my two cents.

There was a thread about them here not long ago, "coming soon" rubbish in my view. Buying a bunch of domains and hoping to start a "network" is not a business model model in my view. People have tried this numerous times before.

I have to agree with snoop here.

this has a heavy feel of 'coming soon' -- take it from someone who knows a bit about that.

Totally agree.

I can't think of any marketing reason why prime.tv wouldn't want to show off their assets, and their ideas for development plans. It is patently obvious they are working on ONE idea at a time, but highlighting the many possibilities they have to offer.

They've certainly got better names than many companies and have managed to quietly keep themselves to themselves concentrating on their business. I had heard of Portalis because of their aggressive purchasing at auction. I only heard of Prime when they bought names, quietly, from me.

They didn't ask for publicity, it was thrust upon them.

How would OWN.tv, Harpo.tv and Oprah.tv have looked to an outsider from Norway six months ago? Pretty much the same, some great content, loads of great ideas and potential, not quite all finished!

My goodness, even Tesco.com, one of the largest retailers in the world, are now at it themselves. Showcasing their upcoming TESCO.tv - even though it is only part way to reality.

Good luck to them. I always wondered what they did in Norway in the WInter, now we know!
