Yes, a tentative and modest start to an aftermarket has been created overnight almost. With Schilling and the others getting in, and regular pricing, this has definitely got the potential to go pretty far from where we were only a few weeks ago.

Getting rid of premium pricing means getting rid of uncertainty translating to a new breed of domainer entering the marketplace.

I do, generally, agree on the aftermarket aspect ... though we may disagree on whether the tide is coming in, or leaving.

On your second point, it wouldn't have taken much to "boost" the .TV ... which has moved sideways for the better part of 10 years, IMHO.

IF that is indeed the case across the board for ALL .TV's (including those existing Premiums that are already in circulation and whose owners have paid dearly over the years!).

Interesting times,
Jeff

Wish I had more TIME yesterday (and cash on hand) but at least I scooped a couple. I feel like the brief opening up of premiums for standard reg fee was somehow a thank you from .TV to its loyal followers who were the ones that probably benefited from the mini landrush the most.

Hard to argue that the tide will be leaving after something like this happens.

Aftermarket activity/sales (domainer-to-domainer) could get a very short-term bump, but when even Verisign now seems to be acknowledging that there are no "premium" .TV's ... it's a pretty good indication that things will generally be trending downward even further over time, IMHO.

Otherwise, why sell a $10,000 (former) Premium .TV ... for $21 bucks?

Just my two sense,
Jeff

Because the penny has finally dropped that they were sellling overvalued names that no one was interested in buying.

Almost every business will do trial pricing to see how high the market will bare their pricing.

If Mercerdez Benz came out with a newly designed totally packed gizmo car that could do 1-180mph in 10 seconds - which cost them $500,000 per unit and charged 5 million dollars for it - alot of MB fanatics would say NICE!! But way out of my budget range.

Over time these cars become dead weight in the showroom.

Guess what happens - they lower the price to where the market can tolerate it and lets just imagine they do a three day Presidents Day sale - selling the cars at $850,000.

Does that mean the MB is worthless because they slashed their price by so much? No, it means they make $350,000 per unit and sell a shit load of amazing supercars.........

Millers - Nice analogy. Thank you for the post!

No Matter WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, the CHANGE is certainly here.. I am really excited to see this happening and feel pretty lucky to be a part of it. I haven't always been a .tv speculator and until yesterday I only owned ONE single .tv. I had previously flipped several for some profit. I am happy with the ones I grabbed yesterday and am pretty confident they are mine to keep now.

Just because they are now more affordable and the Registrars can now make money & in volume ... does that necessarily mean that the domains will be worth more, over time?

Unless ".TV" starts over from scratch perhaps as an innovative gTLD or something (or purchases the rights to the highly brandable .WEB), and totally rebrands itself with an emphasis on unique, interactive developments ... I feel the domainer aftermarket trend is still downward, IMHO.
