From the sounds of it, I imagine that the owner, Richard, seems to be pondering offers to buy his company.
Now, anyone that has worked for a large company can tell you that when buyout talks start happening, even if there is denial, work seems to grind to a halt while people that work there start thinking about whether they have a job or not.
Aside from that, not a friggin thing is happening with them.
Story says that he has been approached to sell, but has no interest. He wants to turn a $1 Billion company into a $10 Billion company, taking DM public in the process.
CarryOn,
Here is a piece that is quite interesting:
"There have been occasional duds, such as the plan to resell domain names ending in .tv along with video and social networking tools. Not every website, it turns out, aspires to be a new-media business."
A, Yes, I noticed this acknowledgement that their ChannelMe.TV (me.tv) business model was a dud. As we all know they never put the resources behind this idea - in server uptime, customer support, etc. It was almost stillborn.
The journalist failed to separate .TV from ChannelMe.TV. Clearly the article's thrust was Richard and DM and not the nuances of dot TV and the natural organic growth of this extension.
couldnt have said it better myself.......except may be to say it was actually stillborn at birth.
And like you say there is no way a journalist without doing extensive homework in the arena of domaining and extensions will grasp the **** up on Channel Me versus the complete neglect of .tv
we shall see...they do not need the cash, they will probably go ipo when economy turns around..
richard, hollywood.tv will be getting a bundle of cash and the workers...
i want a discount soon lol.....thats all i care about and eying on a couple names...

Richard is obviously a shrewd businessman or he wouldn't be where he is today. However, I feel that channel me could/should have done so much better had there been a "real" plan. We all know that the .tv extension is likely going to be the future choice for media, interactive, video etc. Has demand taken this and really pushed the ext within the media itself? No! Did they provide new innovative tools ie upload capabilities for Joe public visiting the sites, the ability to actually SEO the channel me sites, transparent visitor stats, world-wide monetization? No!
Relatively small things that would have given them an edge were distinctly lacking and as such turned many potential users away. I for one , mistakenly thought that channel me was going to be a huge success and I am dissapointed that it is not what it could have been. I would guess that a large proportion of the channel me sites are rarely updated by their owners anymore as there is no passion or incentive coming from the direction of Demand media.

if tuvalu does not renew with verisign, and goes elsewhere, then demand would no longer be in the pictture, correct? their deal is directly with verisign?
