.TV and resistance to change...

I get Modern Domainer in the mail and was reading about domains and the advertising model.

Here is the read:

http://moderndomainer.com//index.php...d=112&Itemid=1

Quote:
Interactive formats are projected to grow nearly 5 times that of traditional advertising, leaving little room for domainers who resist change and don’t capitalize on the industry shifts to maximize their revenue generating potential. IBM finds the use of social-networking and user-generated content sites supersede almost any other category and notes the following findings among it’s U.S. users:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/472047-tv-and-resistance-to-change.html

• 45% use social networking sites (ie: MySpace)
• 29% visit user generated content sites (ie: blogs)
• 24% use a music service (ie: iTunes)
• 24% subscribe to premium television content
I selected the above passage in quotes becasue I thought this was an important part potentially pertaining to .TV. Advertising onTelevision online is one of the sectors expected to grow by at least 5 times, which leads to higher payouts for video ads and more revenue for TV based sites. As advertising business models change so does the value of names and their revenue produced. In the future Google will be encouraging interactive and multimedia ads which is perfect for .TV. If the revenue is there it will eventually lead to more and more interest and acceptance from the domaining industry as they see the new potential with .tv and new business models.

that is why I started working on lead generation 2.0 which includes social networking, video, and other tools.

I realized several years ago that the lead generation companies (servicemagic, respond, reply, lendingtree, leads.com) had to change or else they would get overtaken by highly interactive websites.

While this is one industry - lead generation - all online industries could get swept up and overtaken by the same current.

Good points Domainacrobat, the explosion of video on the web (plus my own move towards developing for that sector just out of interest) is the main reason I finally started taking .tv seriously.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=472047

I also changed my mind about .mobi around the same time and this article made me realize the mobi crowd and tv crowd have alot in common (although strangely don't seem to overlap much). Both are looking forward to whole new uses of the internet that may not be obvious to people who cant think outside of the box. Both extensions are in their infancy with only a few examples but both are growing towards promising futures.

Lets just hope mobi and tv can get along, we're all hardened mofo's from the constant barrage of .com attacks but wait till these extensions both blow up and are battling in the big money media arenas, then we'll see some fire!

The trouble still lies in the standardization. What is ".tv" is it a site where you can watch TV programs (Supernatural.tv - has 100 supernatural related videos) or is it a site for a TV program. (Supernatural.tv - is the site for the TV show Supernatural.)

I feel like people at this point expect a video site when they hit a .tv and that's not something I'm interested in developing so I've been putting off buying them even though I'm interested in developing TV show related sites.

I think for .tv people think 'entertainment' which fits both of your examples and proposed use perfectly.

For me the confusion comes with what to expect at Supernatural.net or Supernatural.org not if .tv means television or videos.

I also think developers have more to gain from .tv then domainers which is a nice bonus if you can do so. I plan on developing my .tvs.

Of course you always can do SupernaturalTV.com if you're squeamish.

ps. if you really are into supernatural videos my site is http://HollowVision.com
