Day in and day out I see turmoil and posts about the bleak future of .TV... Most seem to attribute .TV as a failure due to dismal personal sales.
Well that is not a way to guage .Tv IMO.
others say its how many endusers are using .TV... Over the last few weeks I have become cemented in my opinion that they will become invaluable commodities. I recently sold raceboat.tv, probably for far too cheap. I saw the transfer request and I sold it to a RACE BOAT driver. This is not what really opened my eyes.
Yesterday I was doing a photo shoot. My client brought along a personal friend whom was helping to style the shoot. It turned out that she was a TV producer. I asked her more questions and she continued to explain that she was producing an online Television show for an online Network launching very soon. Hmmm I thought, so I asked the name;
Everything we always talk about here at the .TV forum materializing in front of my eyes. At first I thought she was pulling my leg. I am going to approach them about programming, I have several videographer/editor friends that I am going to pull together and see if we can come up with a format for a show and pitch it to them.

Shows produced strictly for the web is a huge arena. Just yesterday, I posted about a new company that is working product placement deals with webseries. People are on the go more than ever, and that means getting their entertainment and news from a more mobile source like the Internet. Add to that, the short length of most webseries and it makes sense.
Only five years ago, most people didn't have the means to watch online videos. Now computers with better processors and memory are standard, ipod went video and even cell phones can handle video. Where will we be in another five years? .TV's not going away.
I agree DDC I regged WebFilmmakers.com for that very reason increasing number of people becoming online filmmakers. The popularity of www.maniatv.com and others shows you this trend increasing.
As far as raw (Parking/Undeveloped type) Traffic goes - I haven't had as much luck with .tv admittedly , But It's pretty obvious the extension is getting attention from end users by Watching actual TV Commercials.
I'm Not trying to start any arguements here with people who like other extensions - But I can not personally remember seeing any other extensions advertised on TV other than .com or .tv in the past year or so. I still consider it a good extension to hold longer term
EDIT : Let me correct myself a little there .... I was speaking from a "Commercial" POV - I see plenty of .org's advertised as well , But they are being used mainly with the Non-profit/oganization intent from what I see.
Hope it will work out for you and work with this co.
More and more companies taking notice of .tv and more developments on the way I am sure.
When the extension continues to grow and grow, sites in search engines we are on the up. Graphs, charts, sales, developments all are up year over year. As wallace says playing for the Detroit pistons. The ball don't lie
I just got off the phone with my friend/producer of one of the TV shows and she let me know that the site has "Soft" Launched!!! Please check it out! PacificNetwork.tv

By the way, are we still going to call these "sites"? How about channel or program or station. Site is getting a little tired and does not fully describe the extension.
Dismal personal sites? I've never heard anyone attribute the lack of success for .tv domains to this reason. I think most would agree the problem is reg fees which prices domainers out of the profit loop in the main. Fairly good extension for media industry endusers, bad one for domainers who are mainly paying the same enduser prices.
If it was not for premium renewals many would never have gotten a chance at good names.
Ray said many times that back when he spoke to Elequa, that Elequa said he would have bought up most of the LL and LLL.tv's like he did with the .net extension, had the .tv's been normal reg fee.
Many people would not even be here right now if these names were not up on the shelf for sale.

I appreciate everyones opinions, but please try to stick to the topic of the thread. I would prefer it if you guys argue symantics and opinions about other topics elsewhere. The real reason this thread was started was to let you know about a real All Original Content Online .TV network here in Hawaii. If its happening here you can bet its happening all over the place! All content is soley online and created soley for this platform. I will be pitching a show in coming months as my work load shifts.
This is essentially what .Tv is all about.

That is not to say premium reg fees are good for domainers. People would have regged all those names because there would have been money in them with lower reg fees.
That is funny, "please don't disagree with what I have said".
Sorry I'm not following you. What do you mean? How is this a response to my post:

Domain Acrobat, my apologies, I did not mean to stink up your thread on positive .tv developments
However, there are so many new people coming in here to learn about .tv now, I just feel that when someone puts up misinformation or skewed opinions there needs to be a checks and balances.
My apologies, I should have just ignored the negative comments.

You are making a statement that appears to be wrong, then suggest people shouldn't be commenting and suggest people "stick to the topic" when you get pulled up on it. If you don't want others opinion then don't give your own.
Snoop your out of line, this post was started by Domain Acrobat to report on a website/company that is using the .tv extension, and it is something that Marlow had first hand knowledge on.
Snoop your trolling in here as usual.

From what I understand its private ownership. If there was some government funding, it would be very little I imagine. I think they have connections to local television programming and they can attract advertisers.
I am having a meeting in about a week and will know more then!
Will keep everyone updated.

I had another meeting with my friend and she shed a little light about the site www.pacificnetwork.tv
It is funded by Time Warner Telecom. It is part of an experimental project to help bridge the gap between Television and Internet and work on and develop usable revenue streams. From what she said they targeted Hawaii becasue the demographics show a large percentage of Hawaii has internet access in comparison to its population. Wether this is true or not I dont know. Currently there is no revenue stream as it is in Beta. I was speaking with her about it and the person whom oversees everything seems as though they are working on many projects at once so the progress is slower than expected. I suggested at minimum using a hybrid revenue system selling adspace and 15 second timeslots before each video is played. I will post more when I know more.

What will really help make this medium scaleable is video affiliates. Figuring out a way to PAY THE FOLKS WHO CREATE THE VIDEOS that get passed around is still a huge challenge. But I expect this will be figured out soon enough and an explosion will occur.
