Id say about 1 in 4 are decent but I don't constantly watch.
Good post Ray, question, does the asking sale price have anything to do with perception?
Wow we are quick lol

If Dot Com is King then Dot TV will be the Queen, and I would rather be caught making out with the Queen...
Jack I wanted to do this to then draw conclusions, if 25 % is the majority then that means IMO that there are not a lot of sales because people think the domains are not good. If 75 % wins then it means IMO no one has any money. Just trying to use different metrics to get a temperature. Just my opinion others may feel it is completely stupid.
IMO, over the last 4-6 months, very little has been offered in way of quality.
There are names offered to be taken to Sedo, and that has normally occurred fairly quickly and sold at Sedo for what ever price. They in the most part have been the quality names offered in the marketplace.
I would tend to agree Mark but the thing noticed about that is I see domains
xyzetc.tv $300 but $60 bid I will send to sedo auction
I watched two that I would have bought here for $100 but the price here was $200 or $300 they sold at SEDO for $60 and $70 respectively. SO the seller paid a commission and got less on the sale price overall.
Personally I will not bid on a Sedo auction just personal preference not saying anything negative just personal preference if its offered here and I can do the transaction great but no sedo.
It seems to me that most names on Sedo get 1 bid maybe a second bid. So I wonder if that has hurt the seller overall.
I was going to write a post just about auctions on SEDO. Are people leaving money on the table ? Add to that paying a commission.
I think for a great .com the desire to push a decent offer to auction is worth gambling on one bid. But with .tv names I have seen that 90 % get one bid and one bid only. Maybe dealing here is more favorable than taking a chance on SEDO.
But Its a phenomenon people like bidding other places I have seen domains expiring on TDNAM that would never get the same action in the marketplace.
I bid on a name on NAMEJET a .com it had 3 bidders bidding it up and I won at $770 most I ever paid for a domain actually. I would bet I would not get a $200 offer in the Namepros or DNF sales threads. It is a good name and I can do a lot of things with it so I do not mind but it just goes to show that people like bidding on expired domains but do not pay the same most of the time in a regular thread. IMO
Dumb question:
How much of the .tv marketplace does NP control. There are some REAL impressive domain portfolios in this .tv crowd. 40%? 50%? more??? We are not catering to end-users here. we have a collective share of a very lucrative market. I would rather ALWAYS have this "home" to turn to for selling and reselling then just dropping them or selling them in an inferior arena. We all keep all of our names that we believe in, then the others make a few bucks on, but kinda keep them in the family here. Now with everyone on the same page, here...when those end-users are found we have a solid guage of what exactly we can and should get. we all together have a big effect on the future of .tv. Make sense?
And about the poll, even if 25% wins, that doesn't mean that we all agreed that only 25% of the names, here are of quality. My 25% could be different then yours, and the other guys. So, I am really happy to look at what anyone here wants to drop. It may be just perfect to compliment a void in MY portfolio.
Just my 4 cents.
i see amazing names on the marketplace but then i see ok names, brandable names and etc..then i see high profile names on the board for big hefty yearly fees.
i see what ray is trying to get at but a poll like this is to hard of an indication for a conclusion on..one week there are top notch names, other week so so names.
for instance-i love the forex market and currency trading...so i grabbed a lot of forex names and there very brandable.....in a domainers eyes there worthless and bad names. like forexfutures.tv and forexbrokers.tv
i usually try to partake in the polls but this one is just to tough to conclude on.........

Maybe we should have a 'one word' marketplace as well - that might help weed out some of the crap at least. I think there has to be some kind of quality control brought in - although this is rather difficult seeing as domains are so subjective!
Good Idea Reality but would be impossible here we only have one .tv marketplace. So cannot really do that, you mean something we like we have in the High Priced Sub forum in the overall sales section ?
It would be one SALES thread, people would pm to be included and then I would post the name in the sticky thread, you could write whatever description in the pm and if approved it goes in the High Priced thread.
I just do not want people getting upset why did my name not get in ?
The problem in my opinion isn't all on quality. I would actually say that 50-75% of names in there have quality in one form or another. The problem in my opinion is price. People in this section are NOT willing to pay much more then 10-50 for any name in general.
There have been some fantastic "keywords" that basically are ignored if they are over 100-200. No, I am not talking about mine, I don't see them as high as others here.
It is market timing. In watching, there has been a flood of sales threads in the last month or so, coinciding with 2007 new landrush registrations. Hmm, go figure.
So in time with that, we have suddenly, in the last month or so, been debating the quality of names in the marketplace. Well no wonder, people are dumping the junk that looked good last year, but come renewal time, is iffy to renew.
So they toss it in the sales forum hoping to make a quick hundred or so. That doesn't work, so prices start falling. It may not be a bad name, but to the rest, it is a name worth about reg-fee or so. And even then it may not sell because psychologically, people are already paying tons of money to renew other things, so they look at a name about to expire, and the seller wants 100 for it. Well 100 is 5 renewals (or 4 depending on registrar) plus another renewal.
So let's break that down.
Buy 1(one) $100 name in the marketplace.
+ Renew it=$25.
Have now spent $125.
Instead I can renew 5 other domains for that price.
Conclusion: Names are not selling because people have other domains to renew. The marketplace is going to look pretty bad the next few weeks to a month because people are dumping their losers in mass. After the drops, it will go back up to 50-75%. It will NEVER achieve 100%.
I would not like another sticky thread or a sales thread for one word .tv names.
We have one thread for high priced domains and yearly fees.
Then people would want a sticky for this niche, a sticky for another area and eventually there will be many threads for sales.
I prefer one click and see all names in one thread. The great names, the ugly names and etc.
By having 3 sales areas and people that want to buy a name would have to check 3 different threads and possible miss out buying because of more Time. Having the enom names and yearly fee names in one thread makes sense. But not one word names.
I would disagree Bulldog I think quality is a factor and most have voted 10 % or less.
The purpose of the thread was another metric like the thread asking if anyone was buying ? Because I get pms everyday asking me "WHY NOTHING SELLS HERE" so I am trying to put out data to try to answer why. It is up to each person to draw conclusions from the data provided here.
