Arrow .TV Auction May 20 At ABW

CROSSOVER AUCTION WITH ABESTWEB.COM

In conjunction with Abestweb.com, the .TV forum of Namepros.com is pleased to announce a crossover auction, to occur in the Abestweb.com Chat Room on May 20th, 2008, at 3:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. This auction will consist of many of the top domains from the .TV extension, and offers an opportunity for participants to grab premium product and media related domains at exceptional pricing. This is your chance to pick up a primary keyword in an extension whose popularity is exploding!

Why Bid On a .TV Domain?
We're glad you asked!

1. More and more people are turning to their computer to watch tv. Video is becoming the venue of choice. Do a search on 2008 trends - read where the web is going. Are you heading in the same profitable direction? You can be with the right name and extension. .TV is the domain extension already geared for this massive expansion. Corporations, media and networks, sports, fitness, auto, food- you name it, all are utilizing .tv.

2. TV is one of the most recognized abbreviations in the world - a true global extension in every sense of the word. This is the one extension that coincides with the immediate future direction of the internet and all that it will entail.

3. Some .TV Facts:
+ .TV has had more sales in 2007 than any year in its history.
+.TV has had more registrations in 2007 than the previous years combined that Verisign has owned the .tv corp.
+ .TV has had more spots in the DN JOURNAL TOP 100 cctld list than it did in any previous year.
+ Some .TV premium names recently sold:

Welcome.tv $10,000
Fussball.tv $28,000
Automotive.tv $7000.00
Comedians.tv $5000.00
Caps.tv $250.00
indianews.tv $1,800
Luxembourg.tv $3130.00

4. Some of the many companies/websites using .tv:
Emmys.tv, Cuisine.tv, Fiction.tv, Jersey.tv, Boston.tv, Public.tv, Tnt.tv, Tru.tv, Hollywood.tv, Fuse.tv, Stageside.tv (CocaCola), Howard.tv, CarsonDaly.tv, Mercedes-Benz.tv and many, many more.... In fact, another company utilizing .tv is Hewlett Packard. They are including their Next.tv in their consumer notebooks, and it will be available for download this year to the public.

5. The social interaction of an online auction is sure to be entertaining, so come have fun with fellow ABWers and NPers. Don't forget, free door prizes will be given during the auction, only those present will win!

HOW TO SUBMIT A DOMAIN
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

+ Domains may be submitted for consideration to Tom Rice, sales@domainbeautiful.com, no later than May 5th, 2008.
+ A small review board will pick which domains to accept for auction. Because we want to give as many people as possible a chance to participate, and because we want this auction to feature quality domains in the appropriate price range, we will limit the number of domains accepted to 3 per person.
+ With each domain you submit, also include a couple of sentences about how that domain might be used, what markets might be found for reselling it or for affiliate development, etc. We will edit all description to fit the same general look and feel.
+ Include the registrar, expiration date, and, most importantly, the cost of renewal. We need to be UP FRONT regarding premium or standard reg fee. We also need the reserve price, which is the auction start price, the minimum cost you will sell at. As we want to make sure this is a successful auction - and by successful we mean that domains SELL - the reserve price should be kept as low as possible, preferably less than $100, and certainly no more than $1,000.
+ If your domain/s are accepted, there will be a one time charge of $10, to cover the auction fees. That is, one $10 charge total, regardless of the quantity of domains accepted. 1 Accepted, $10. 3 accepted, $10. This money is used to pay the auctioneer for his time ( the last auction took 5 hours ), ABW for their space, and to filter out sub-par domain submisisons.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
HOW THE AUCTION WORKS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

+ Participants will need to register as a member of the www.abestweb.com forum.
+ On the given day, login to the chat room at ABW, where you will find a room set up specifically for the auction.
+ Before the auction begins, I will review the house rules for behavior within the auction. In essence, everyone will need to be as 'quiet' as possible, in order to watch the progress of the auction. Once I have introduced the Auctioneer, he will run the show.
+ For each item, our Auctioneer will write out the domain name, and all related info, including a couple of ideas regarding the potential use of the domain.
+ Once the information has been given, the Auctioneer will start out at the reserve price for the domain. If no bids are given before he types out "going once, going twice, SOLD", then the domain does not sell. If there is a bid from one of the chat room members, Auctioneer will continue to move the auction along as smoothly as possible.
+ By bidding on a domain, you are making a verbal/written contract with that seller.
+ Neither Namepros.com nor Abestweb.com assumes any financial interest in the collection of/distribution of monies or property within this auction. In essence, once the bidding is closed, it will be up to the buyer/seller to contact eachother with appropriate information for completing the transaction externally to the forum. Because both buyer/sellers will be members of ABW, there will be some modicum of security against false bidding, but no responsibility is assumed by either forums.
+ Once the auction is concluded, a summary will be posted on both forums.
+ During each auction, keep 'talking' to a minimum, unless it is in regards to a question about the current auction.
+ The Auctioneer, while he will try to make sure all bidding is complete before auction is closed, has the final say in how the overall process occurs.
+ Domains will be posted several days before auction begins, in order to allow for pre-bidding.

There will be several door prizes given away during the auction process, as a way to break up the event, and give the auctioneer an occasional break. These prizes are substantial, and the specific merchants will be posted within this thread shortly.

Any additional questions should be addressed to Tom, who will post additional information, if necessary, here.

.TV - Go ahead, turn it on.

- - - - - - - - - - -
This is similar to the announcement that will be posted at ABW shortly.

The idea is to market our domains at another forum, so as to put new money onto the table. As affiliate marketers and merchants ( many of whom hang out there ) are in need of quality domains, my hope is that we will find some endusers that recognize the potential that these domains hold.

Nice initiative!
And yes, if there were previous auctions of that kind, it would be interesting to know the results.

Great to know this upcoming .TV auction. I'm looking forward and might list www.Belgium.TV and other .TV to see if it will get any offer.

Cheers,

One thing, I put the reserve suggestions out there as a way to ensure we generate some sales. While I think there will be some folks over there with money to spend, I'm not sure that there will be anyone willing to spend $20K on a domain.

So, we want to offer up quality, solid domains, but maybe not the ones that are going to provide you with life altering sales.

But if you want to discuss this, by all means, let's chat.

This will be the first auction held in the ABW chat room, auctioneered by our very own Equity. If this one generates some sales, then I will probably try a .com or .net auction there in the future as well.

Just to put up one more passing thought, if this works well at ABW, it might also work well with other forums. Over the next month put some thought into other places that might be interested in a fun event like this. Perhaps if we can't get the money coming to NP, we can hold events where the money already is.

Actually you are promoting this auction for the potential buyers where the 100% of the members here are Sellers. What's the point ? Please, correct me if i'm wrong.

To be honest, i have no idea about your Forums at ABW.

Did you promote this event for the potential buyers (end users) somehow ?

Thanks

Yes, there is some promotion going on at ABW, plus I am making some contacts externally trying to drum up some pr.

ABW is chock full of affiliate marketers - who need good strong keyword domains to develop - and merchants, who, if they find the rightr domain, might have deeper pockets than trying to resell to other domainers.

The hidden bonus is trying to make people from ABW more aware of NP and vice versa. The two sites can benefit from eachother's strongpoints.

Hey Rogue, not trying to be nitpicky, but that site is confusing.

I am not sure what to pick to go to the forums. Plus I didn't see any announcements.

Honestly not trying to be difficult, but just didn't see what I was supposed to see. I didn't see any announcements any where either. I might be blind though.

Well, abestweb is the largest affiliate marketing forum on the internet. One of the reasons I chose to persue this is that affiliate marketing can be a profitable tool for domainers, rather than just relying on the standard 'parking' sites such as sedo for your income.

The site is relatively self explanatory, though there is so much information there it will take a while to absorb it.

If you look at the home page of ABW, you will find a number of sub forums at the bottom, one for each of the major affiliate networks, such as CJ, Shareasale, etc. Inside og each sub forum, you will see where a number of merchants have purchased their own sub forum, where affiliates can go to look for announcements/news and general information about each specific program.

"Outsourced Managers" is a sub forum where you can go to find managers that oversee multiple programs. The idea being, if you find an honest manager for one program, you might also make good money by joining the other program he/she manages.

Down at the bottom, there is lots of information about becoming an Affiliate Manager, a way to save yourself a lot of time, misery and, well, money by avoiding mistakes others have already made.

One of the eye opener sub forums is also near the bottom of the page, and is entitled Parasiteware. This is where you can go to find updates on clean or dirty programs. That is, which affiliate programs play fair.

Up top is "midnight Cafe", where a lot of the more general posts occur. There is also a sub forum up top for domains, but there's not a whole lot of activity there - similarly, at namepros, there is an 'affiliate marketing' sub forum that is not used a whole lot at namepros.

Regardless of which sub forum you click on - let's click on "Midnight Cafe", for example, you will see near the top, in red, this link:

"Announcement: CROSSOVER AUCTION WITH NAMEPROS.COM"

So, abestweb has pushed the announcement to every single sub forum on the entire site, giving the upcoming auction a very high profile.

Not sure what else to tell you, other than this: because of the information I gleaned from ABW over the years, I have earned 76 paychecks in a row ( 76 months) from CJ, and many, many paychecks from other networks and independant sites.

Basically, if you want to earn more money online, it will behoove you to take the time to sort out whatever structural issues you have with that site - your bank account will thank you for it.

Rogue, thanks for the explanation of the abestweb site. It’s really a great initiative for getting .tv in front of a new audience. Well done.

I’m just starting to sample the different forums - very cool that each subforum shows the auction announcement up top.

I’m taking your advice about spending some time at abestweb – this looks like a great forum to learn about & get involved with affiliate programs.

It’s also a great way to determine which .tv domains would be best to submit to you for the auction. Names/keywords that fit the focus of the different affiliate programs should bring more interest and participation.

I look forward to the auction. Cheers, CarryOn

I've got to agree that the $1k reserve seems a bit low for some names and $100 seems ten times lower ! , as you risk selling a good name for a low price, this will not encourage people to list their good names, only names they aren't too bothered about keeping or losing.
Is there any commission on sales ?

advaita- I've had a couple others dscuss the 1K reserve limit, the only thing is, I don't want to chase the potential audience away with a bunch of great names that they cannot afford. I guess one of the things that we won't find out until the auction actually starts is what kind of a market is waiting for us there. It's just hard to judge.

I've had somone else request a 1.8K reserve price as well, does anyone else have thoughts regarding this?

I have some names that I will be entering. I will only be entering targeted "affiliate" domains and associated domains. Seems like that may be the only type of domains sold. Just an FYI, TRAFFIC EAST starts the same day. I will be peeled to both auctions like a hawk.

Thx for the info, and the initiative! I just joined over there, and left a comment on the announcement thread. I'm going to enter a few myself. Just one question. What will the payment methods be? I am set-up with PayPal, myself. Will we be able to specify our payment preferences, as we can here?
Thanx!
