people are trying to gauge .tv based on sales. some are basing it on when more domainers buy .tv, then we are really successful now.
ands that just plain not true as a whole. my proir point was, there is a process that must cycle through first. this process is happening now, but by no means is close to done yet.
while you will see sales of good solid names, there is still a plethora of names to be had, variations to be hand regged, based on a buyers needs.
i just saw chic.tv- sweet site- used a FAB names for it. now look at the bottom-
GOING LIVE SOON! CHIC.TV'S NETWORK AFFILIATES
autos24.tv, wine.24.tv, dancing24.tv etc...
now, had someone asked for an appraisal in here on dancing24.tv, ya'll would have said reg fee- and rightfully so based on the name itself.
but chic.tv did NOT go about buying dance.tv, cooking.tv, autos.tv, ect...
people WANT to use .tv. and this is a good thing. it will take time tho till there is really just dung left to push mass sales. there will be sales, so i am not saying prepare for drought- not at all. just that this is something to keep in mind.
development is gaining momentum, but there is a world of topics and niches not even covered yet.
thats why i said it would take 10 years for good tv sales..but i got shot down when i said this.....
.i still dont understand poor sales of tv names on sedo and look on ebay yuck ,when you see good tv site poping up all over the place...
i still dont think joe public is interested in tv.
That's not quite true. We are already starting to see some really good .tv sales.
Just look at Sedo or at reported sales here on NP.
There are more and more .tv sales every week and we've seen quite a few $x,xxx and $xx,xxx sales over the past few weeks.
Moreover, I can tell you that most .tv sales are actually private and don't get reported anywhere. There are big things happening right now...
That doesn't seem true at all.
We can see more and more major developed .tv sites, many of which are made by very large corporations with big budgets both for development and advertising (which means that Joe Public is getting more and more aware of .tv domains). Just look at the recent example of NHL.tv
The best proof is that type-in traffic on parked .tv domains has been increasing all the time over the past few months both for my own domains and many other NP members. Some of my .tv domains are getting $xxx per month in parking revenue now, with traffic coming from lots of different countries in the world.
This means that .tv is already happening and it'll only get bigger and bigger in the future.
i am in the middle of a good tv sale.....but there just one off.
am talking about names in general.even in the main namepros forum some put biz above tv why..?
i do think my proplem is i dont like tv sites anymore.
i did think it would be better,me and my wife did try to like chic.tv but it drove us round the bend .i dont think i will be around much longer
In the thread you are talking about, the OP did put ccTLDs at the bottom of the list.
Do you really think that extensions like .co.uk or .de are worth less than any other extension ?
Try to understand how things work and don't always believe everything that's written in posts.
Let me take the example of the NHL. Just like many businesses/organizations, their main site is a .com (NHL.com). And the only other extension they have created a specific site for is actually .tv (NHL.tv). There's no site on NHL.net, NHL.org, NHL.mobi, etc.
That says quite a lot...
Speculation can give some short-term value to some domains (for example .mobi), but those probably won't hold any major long-term value.
Only great development by major corporations, organizations, serious developers can really lead to some wonderful sites that will be seen and used by everybody, thus giving some real long-term value to an extension.
there is a cycle hulls- tried and true with all extensions. you cant rush it, but it is important to understand it. there is such a big picture to look at, and so many simply look thru forum-colored galsses.
you have to know that there is life beyond this forum, sedo and ebay.

Joe public (the sheep) will not become interested unless the companies that are familiar to them begin using the extension. Turner Broadcasting just purchased iReport.com for $750K. This is a good indicator that they plan on sticking with .com for the long haul.
Most major companies are not going to invest in an extension that has an unknown future. Sam Walton would not put a store in a building unless he was able to negotiate a lifetime lease. With .TV, you're limited to maximum of 7-years of uncertainty.
When the Verisign contract comes up for renewal in 2015, all bets are off.

Turner Broadcasting has developed the site TNT.tv, which proves that they are committed to .tv for the long haul, just like so many other major corporations.
if people are waiting for big companies to make intelligent moves regarding .tv, and to "spur" the growth, you got it all backwards.
if turner broadcasting used some brains, they would have never overpaid for ireport like thay did.
if sam walmart did some research, they would have never opened stores in germany, that they all closed down, without finding out simple things like their pillows are different sizes, hence they need to sell them different pillowcases.
"We made mistakes," said Wal-Mart Germany's CEO David Wild in a recent interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. "Many of our (product) buyers in Germany were Americans. Some real goof-ups occurred as a result."
"Like, did you know that American pillowcases are a different size than German ones are?" he asked. Wal-Mart Germany ended up with a huge pile of pillowcases they couldn't sell to German customers.
"If you want to be successful in a foreign market, you have to know what your customers want. That's the most important lesson," Wild said, who is from England. "It does not good to force a business model onto another country's market just because it works well somewhere else."
therefore, the more joe publics that continue to develop .tv, the more larger companies will see what people are USING and what their needs are.
my bets are with joe public. big companies are dumb.

Smash,
Its not your fault.
I have been following the .tv sections of this forum,
since I joined.
There has always been a kindof "ready to give up" attitude.
Just a little discouraging, but understandable if these .tv-ers
have had a long road w/very little results.
But on the other hand, I would say YOU are a huge reason
why I have started to really embrace the .tv extension.
You have alot of enthusiasm!
It makes me excited, too!
I'm sure they will be back after their break.
We just need to do as you've said,
in multiple threads...Keep Pushing!
you know how you hear people say- if a name was that good, people would be coming to you for it. end-users search out names. blah blah blah.
well, look- if these people were right, then they would never post any of their own names for sale. and they do. only a small handful of people NEVER post or sell their names. those people have the part of the crop that we worship :-)
but for the other 95% of us, yeah man, we have to SELL our names. i roll over when someone says, if your names were any good, people would be coming to you, then they post names for sale, on a reseller forum. whats the matter- didnt any users come banging down thier doors?
buyers are simply consumers who are in the "market" for something. i dont believe the majority of them say, we want Cooking.tv. i believe the majority say, we are going to do a cooking video site- here are some possible names, lets explore our options.
how many times do you walk into a store JUST for milk- and you leave with chips, dip and frozen tacos?
while frank and few others may have the very names people actually seek out, the rest of us have to seek out buyers. let them know what is out on the market because many just dont know. i have dealt with people who were on one line of thought, then fell in love with another name of mine. never came for that name, but left with that name.
i dont mind that the domainers here are not buying .tv- in fact, i am kinda glad. when you have much larger fish holding .tv, THAT makes me happy. .tv is NOT a domainer trend, and that is what you see alot of on these boards. it is an internet trend- and that by far means more to me.
now, i put on extra deoderant in case ya'll want to come back anytime sooner

Not sure if you all know or not.. I am fairly new to .tv, but I was watching the biography channel yesterday and they are now justs called BIO and they have their site at the bottom of the screen, BIO.TV - Thought this was really interesting and hopeful.
