tv.com Someone is out there targeting US!

I have been following the availability of TV.com names over the last few months. It seems to me that lurkers or members here are targeting Tv.com versions of many of the .TV forum members .TV names. Over the last week I have noticed a swift increase in the registration of the TV.com version of our .TV names specifically. BEWARE. Buy the TV.com versions of all your .TV name or else you will likely become the target of domainers whom would try to buy the tv.com with the only intention of making money off of you rather than use some form of creative thinking. Save yourself some money and time, cover yourself.

Thanks!

I have checked mine already some time ago, but it can't hurt checking again if any dropped or if I forgot one

John all of the domains you own for the most part the tv.com was regged before you even came to .tv.

I am not sure I understand the jist Marlowe, are you saying names like you made up a domain for a site of yours like (hypothetical) hanu.tv and someone regged hanutv.com
or are you saying someone regged dermatologisttv.com which would not surprise me as it is a widely known keyword and profession.

If it it Hanu then I agree, if it is dermatologist then I think that only logical. I reg tv.com every month. None of any .tv owners here although I think if someone wanted to they have every right. I started writing in 05 to reg the tv.com of your best .tv if someone is lazy cannot blame someone IMO for regging the domain.

Im not suprised either.

I just thought that others should know that not just my names are dissappearing. I had a list of available names, not just my names, alot of others names here too. I did not reg them out of respect for the most part. What I am pointing out is that they all were taken over the last 10 days, both my names and others, hardly a coincidence. When I search whois there is no name and I can't get to the underlying information...
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/427932-tv-com-someone-out-there-targeting.html

I suspect we will start to get random emails via whois lookup to see if we want to buy the tv.com versions of our names for $199.95 each...

OK I see what you mean it was one concerted effort in a short time span to register all of the tv.com. That is interesting, there are a lot of guests looking here some are probably only here to cherry pick or get new ideas.

Thank you Marlowe

Thank you Marlowe
I noticed yesterday when the Superbowl was on and things were very quiet in the forum, there would be 4 or 5 members and 27 guests!!!

Getting back to the thread, almost all my keyword names where [keyword]tv.com regged back in 1999, 2000, 2001 etc and the remainder were regged a few years ago.

Thanks anyway DA.

I was going to say something about this a few weeks ago. make no mistake about it, I have seen personally three instances in the past few months where tv.coms have either been registered or bought in the after market and I know for a fact one major acquisition went down right after someone had acquired the .tv name.

Ive also had multiple situations happen where as soon as someone found out I had the .tv they would email me and try to sell me the tv.com, and when I check the who is they had just regged it.

Kind of tacky if you ask me, but such is life in this wild west industry...

Interesting post. Thanks for heads up.

I been noticing huge increase on viewers as well. Guests.

I know in 2 cases where I did this. Not just to piss people off nor have I solicited my names to them because I am keeping them. I wanted the names badly. One the guy wants for like 25,000 bucks so I laughed at that one. Forex related term. Then a guy I respect and bought names before. Either way there being developed and again its a form of a hedge. You also get 3 to 5 .com names for price of one .tv.

But I been doing tv.com for a few months now.

Good luck everyone.

Damn you. Damn you to hell.

I have one that I was on the fence about getting the tv.com, and then suddenly out of the blue it gets massive hits today and a few nice clicks.

Granted, it is election related, but since there was no interest, I wasn't touching the tv.com.

Well, the clicks today covered my cost so there. I bought the tv.com.

I scanned most of the premium .TV available domains that are over $1000 in TV.com format. Most of them are taken (except for names that do not look good as tv.com)

The real worry with all this is the confusion it creates in the punters' minds. People will start keying in xxxTV.com, rather than xxx.TV, thinking that xxxTV.com is what dot TV is all about.

and that is where marketing comes in...

One doesn't sit and bemoan the competition, you have to come up with a product(site) that has value.

.tv or tv.com if it has no value on its site is meaningless. If the product is qualitative than it shouldn't matter and there will be no confusion involved.

It something that has always been an issue. Even without people promoting tv.com names it is something of a "natural" mistake.

eg,

Overture

ufc.tv 6878
ufctv.com 570

Try it out with some other big .tv sites if you know of any.

Why would there be "no confusion" if the site has value?
