LL.tv's - the intrinsic value

There are only 676 LL.tv's available. They are all Premium and range from as low as $250(?) to as high as $10,000 per annum.

I live in a city of approximately 3.5m people. A car LL number plate sells anywhere from $120-180K. When they very occasionally become available, they are immediately purchased and always at a much higher price. With a recent LL number plate sale, it was flipped 3 times in 10 days ending up at a 40% higher price.

LL car number plates can not be developed; can not be monetized; and make negative revenue for the owner because they keep getting stolen and hence need to be replaced. The owner however makes a great ROI when it gets sold. Exposure 3.5m people.

With .tv's its a different story. There are currently LL.tv's available to be regged at the $1,000 Premium level. They are very rare; they can be developed; they can be monetized; and they will without any doubt increase in value. Exposure is global.

So, IMO, either the LL number plate market is extremely overpriced (and has been for the last 40 years) or LL.tv at $1,000 are very underpriced by comparison.

Wow, so much for a number plate!!! I never saw the point of people buying personalised numberplates, not talking about these 2 letter ones but any personalised ones, rather would use the money for something else.

Have been writing about the value of LL.tv for a long time. LL.tv from the Golden Age have even more value as they have only $500 renewals with the 50 % discount. Then there is the group of LL.tv that dropped in Aug for $125 even more valuable.

The $1,000 still provide good value IMO with the $10,000 LL.tv just being outrageously priced even with a 50 % off.

For this I believe the L-L.tv have value as many companies around the world have no problem with a hypen only domainers have problems with hyphens so IMO hyphens are ok.

LL.tv that are State or Country Code abbreviations are very attractive at the $1000 Level. Domains like SD, KC, and WV all hold good value IMO. The other thing is LL.tv get a little traffic so with development you already have some traffic coming in.

Eq - I used the example of $1,000 because thats the lowest figure that is available to reg (i must have blinked and missed in August when the $125 drops happened). I agree, $10k is nuts!

I have got country code LL's and some do surprisingly well on direct type in - particularly when the Country is often referred to in that manner such as VN for Vietnam.

The Padres have "SD" on their caps. The Royals have "KC". Too bad "TC.tv" is $10,000 or I would pick that one up because the Twins use it for "Twin Cities"

My personal feeling on two letter domains is that of all scenarios they hold the highest value, especially if they are quality two letters. In the short term, they are a waiting game, but in the end the payoff is great and I am not talking putting an extra 10K in your pocket for a sale, I am talking putting xxx, xxx. This number is not out of reach for a quality two letter.

So let's say a two letter is 1K per year for example, then in ten years one would have spent 10K straight if left undeveloped and nothing was done to recoup costs or make monies on the domain. I firmly believe that in ten years the domain is highly like to have a resale value in the xxx, xxxx region. When that domain sells, I don't think anyone would have minded to have spent 10K to make that. It has been mentioned by Raymond many times and others that premium fees have made such domains reachable for purchase else they would all with absolute certainty been gone right out of the gate.

I feel the key for LL.tv names is to do your homework instead of going after any LL.tv. SD.tv is great. Wish I had that since I live in San Diego but it has great value. ZX.tv is just an example but unless it's tied into a GEO or a company with some $$$ does not make as much sense but still some people or future buying don't care they just want LL.tv because it's short. I am all for premium domains, I have bought about 50 myself, almost all in the $500 range but only after doing my research first.

Nice thread. I agree with the thought process here. There is a rarity value to LL domains, especially if the counterparts in .com, .net, and .org are developed sites, and even more so if the LL has real meaning and usage.

I also like the fact that they do get type-in traffic. If developed they can be memorable and easy for direct navigation. I’m especially interested in the potential for LL.tv in mobile applications (minimal keystrokes on the run; one less than .com) With broadband WiFi networks going up around the world, usage for mobile internet will accelerate.

I’ve certainly put my money where my mouth is and regged a couple LL.tv’s back in May. I view them as long term core holdings.

I’ve noticed the remaining good LLs getting regged the past few weeks. There are still a few left.

Lets take this one step further: The rarest of rare is still available: L.tv

Two left on the shelf: P.tv and D.tv are 10k/yr Expensive but may be worth the risk for deep pocket players. Only 3 L.com’s are in the wild; the rest haven’t been released. P.tv could be the ultimate Property channel. And D.tv could be the ultimate Digital channel, for example, IMO.

Good luck to all, CarryOn

I certainly hope you're right! I've got SX.TV, which I really hope is as good a name as I think it is (type-in traffic so far is promising). I'm looking into developing it very soon to at least help defray some of the costs of renewal until such a time that I can sell it for those $XXX,XXX!

My obvious train of thought on it right now is going with an adult site. Any other suggestions, though?

Do a search in google on "sx" and see what comes up. Also, see if there are ads that come on as well under "sx". They will give you an idea what to target after. Also, see if "sx" has any searches in overture and see the breakdown of keywords. That will give you some ideas to start.

i certainly believe in LL.tv's and thats why i 1st registered ya(.)tv earlier this year.

There is a controversy about LL.tv's and if they have the same value as the com do.
Everybody says that LL.com's dont compare to the tv ones but also some say that LL.tv's wont have that acceptance as years pass.

My opinion is that the LL.com trend will pass to the tv ones in the next 10 yrs.
Whoever is strong enough to hold will get some pleasant figures.

I must struggle as i have a $1750 renewal but i ll manage
