Appraisal: Frankfort.TV -Capital of Kentucky, USA (Last US capital to be registered!)

I was going through the list of United State capitals, and I found that Frankfort was the only capital that had not been registered. I figured that many people were focusing on heavily populated areas and missed this gem (Only 50 state capitals!). I've searched through hundreds of US city names (mostly heavily populated), but I've found nothing. I guess that most (if not all) are taken.

visitfrankfort.com has more information on Frankfort, KY.

I only registered this because some people in the auction were mainly interested in GEO names, and this GEO is also popular for its (traveller's) attractions. If I can't flip this quick, I'll try to develop and find an end-user.
I've been awake until 7 AM researching this domain before purchasing it... lol

All I hope at this point is that the name itself can be worth more than the reg fee as some of the other names I've purchased requires some development to increase in value.

Would you guys/gals be able to appraise this domain name?
I really appreciate any input/appraisal. Thank you all

Frankfort.TV

maybe one day when .tv traffic picks up then you will get typo traffic from people looking for Frankfurt Germany. At least its a state capital though so its not too bad even though the city is very small.

I realized that the population was small when I first looked at the stats, and that was what prompted me to do some more DD (for hours :S). I have registered it because it is the state capital after all, and I'm currently not looking to make big bucks off the name itself.
I don't know for sure why Flint.TV didn't sell at the auction. There can be other factors involved. Perhaps it was the high start bid, and maybe there was no right buyer at the time. It will probably sell for his expectation in the near future. Best wishes to vimal

Localexperts, I have also considered what you wrote in one of the .TV thread before purchasing (how the size of the geo does not matter sometimes ...but more marketing effort may be needed http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/3157...hlight=geo+size Hopefully not too much with a proper development as this is a state capital heh)

Thank you both for the inputs

take my comments in context

Those comments were made for a GEO that represents the town I live in.

If you live in the area, then size doesn't matter.

If you live 1000 miles away, size matters.

The reason Flint didn't sell is because the total GEO market (on this board) is represented by three people. JohnTV, Poodleman, and myself. John only buys two chars. I can't speak for Poodleman.

I will only buy large cities (top 100) or US tourist destinations.

CashCow bought a couple GEOs, but he is an investor and only wants large cities.

Research the market, not just the raw numbers.

Thank you the inputs. You're absolutely right about the population being small. I agree, and I greatly appreciate the feedback.

I've looked at both pros and cons
Cons -
- Mainly... being a small city
- Not living there to market (but it's the state capital, and many people will know that the city exists)
Pros -
-Kentucky State Capital (1/50 states)
-Site for tourism
-Overture almost in the 5 figure (overture is usually much higher for really big cities)
-Same city name in different states (Maybe if I can combine them... )

If I lived there, maybe I could've tried to see (for example) if anybody from Kentucky State University was interested heh.

Okay, it looks like I have to develop it and try to put it in the top of the search engine. I hope it will not be too hard as it's not (nowhere as) as big as some cities like New York and such.

Maybe I'll get a contact from end-user or contact tourism department or TV station myself later (after development).

Best wishes.

Maybe I was in a state of denial or WAS just a little bit too optimistic when I bought the domain.

I've researched what I could for hours before purchasing it.
But I needed honest feedbacks, and I'm very grateful to be learning a lot from the experts.

I'm just hoping that since this is not just any small city, but a state capital, there will be some value in the future (or much more with development).

Thank you for all the inputs provided here. It's a great learning experience, and I will probably try to go for high population US geo cities in the future.

I'm banging my head on the wall doh
Well, I'm willing to let it go for a reasonably cheap price... so if interested, shoot me a PM and we can talk about it.

Hi MrDomainMan,

The best way to put this and what I believe LocalExperts it trying to get across is that the likelihood of a small geo working is a function of your proximity to it and/or your if you have roots there whether a past history or current contacts and association. My feeling is that as you get into higher population levels the criteria matters less unless we are talking out of country then the first rule applies again to the extreme but of course always relative to your ability both technologically and financially. Higher population has more appeal to developers, advertisers and investors. What matters more in the "higher" populated geos is your ability to develop and/or find a developer. Many seem to think that all a GEO takes is to slap a local news RSS feed and a few videos and you are in business. That I will tell is far from true based on my own experience. By far that method is better than a parked page but a business it is not and your traffic is limited. The guts of a GEO that will make it in today's marketplace takes much much more to survive. To build a GEO it takes a lot of work and expertise. Social networking tools alone will not make you monies against the ever growing population of scripted video sites. Many of these sites will come and go in the near future. Probably the three or four smallest town I own are within miles from me and at some point will be used to funnel real estate business for me.

Correct SKG:

The best hope to profit from this domain (to expand the reach) is to put up videos from Kentucky State Govt and make this about KY Govt issues (similiar to Election.TV Kentucky version). This makes the web site reach include the entire state.

or

sell to/partner with a real estate agent in Frankfort, KY

I have Louisville.TV and LexingtonKY.tv. Would be happy to syndicate any KY state govt content on those sites (when launched).

Vimal is an unknown quantity at this point
Frankfort.tv may not be all that big without development but I am sure it will sell for low xxx$. That in itself is a great ROI, imagine a name being bought at 25$ and sold at 200$. 700% of returns is HUGE. I am not big into Geos or not an expert like JohnTV, Localexperts, Poodleman or SKG the reason being I was late to pick the best ones (with the exception of TX.TV). As long as you can make a good ROI, you will do great. Good Luck with your sale.

Well coming to flint.tv, I think I can make the sale at a price of $250-$300. Coming to poodleman he was interested but for him my asking price of $ 600 was high. Snce I have just registered this name. I can probably wait for the sometime hoping for some enduser to pick it up. If not then sell it for 250.
