I invited myself to join one of my channels, following the email, I signed up and that was about it. I saw no way to add videos or pictures from strictly a user point of view. The channel is open and public.
Well that's retarded.
I thought the whole point was to be able to have users and friends be able to share with each other? If they can't do that, then this is just myspace with Carson Daly listed as everyones best friend. And he still hasn't sent me a signed picture yet. Some friend.
I can just load a blog script and make it look better.
And realistically, this completely kills missingchild.tv's ability for people to post pictures or vids of their kids.
It makes the tools basically a glorified, and ugly, blog.
Not true skg, one of the options you can set is to moderate all actions, or let them go without moderation.
So to not have ability for users to interract more then commenting on the videos is a severe limitation that already has me questioning this rollout and if they thought everything out.
So are you talking about an embed feature which may require an editor or are you talking actually uploading a video which would require bandwidth and storage costs?

Point taken but it would be nice to have the option SKG. Would be easy to implement an option where you could chose to have no user content.
Certainly, they could make alot of cash out of charging for the extra bandwith required in developing a 'shared content' site. I mean, that's the message they're trying to send out right? If we want to create communities rather than 200million-lookalikey-myspacewithfrills-vanity sites, we are going to need tools which suit the purpose.
Hey, don't get me wrong - I think it's great what DM are doing but at the same time I hope they have further tricks up their sleeve!
Whilst i understand your views, i only see this as an alternative to a parking page, which can give potential buyers a chance to see what a name could be made into, if developed right.
Its all about development, these tools are not made so we can have our own little youtube site, if we want to do develop our sites to a standard that will attract regular viewers and add our own unique stamp on the site, then it is going to require some time, money and effort on our behalf.
What i am trying to say is these tools "are what they are"and if any of us want to build a site, it is going to require some effort, time and money as i believe it should.

It is true that many features are missing but let's hope as time goes more and more are released. Hopefully an editor, widgets, more templates and/or the ability to upload one. They also need a feature to search for members via interest tags so that niches can be networked. Lots of food for thought and it all takes time but now that they have launched hopefully the rest will come. Richard R repeated many times in the launch webcast about niche verticals and the only way imo that you can do that in a myspace type environment is the ability to search and seek similar interest folks.
As far as I know the whole setup was beta tested in house only a week before the launch so I am sure there are some bugs being worked out as they get feedback from bloggers and the like.

Don't want to get off topic, so shut me up if i do.
But it seems like the tools are for people who are myspacers... not really for developers. Granted, I thought they may have been a bit more comprehensive myself, but I should ave figured it would be a walmart version. WalMart is good for many things. But BestBuy is better at other things. Who wants to buy their refrigerator at Wal-Mart? (Oh yeah... Wal-Mart doesn't sell refrigerators.) And I think that is the point.
This has mass appeal, so it must be basic. I am actually glad I went out and grabbed a script that can do many things better than their tools. I think I would have been disappointed if I had waited to launch www.BANDchannel.TV with what came out 2 days ago from enom. Not because they are bad. They just aren't what I need to succeed. A year ago, I would not have even tried to build on my own, but this time I just wanted to be on the front end.
Hope that makes some sense.
David

Actually, i was kind of playing devils advocate in that I have no intention of using these tools (well, apart from maybe having some fun with one name in particular). I agree, much better to develop proper sites - which is what I am kind of striving to do in my own little way!
However, I suggested that it might be a good idea for users to have the option of uploading content just to avoid the problem (which I can sort of see happening) of there being 60000000000 BobsStampCollection.TV sites out there, all with grabbed YouTube clips and no developed forums or blogs. I think there is a danger that the Dot TV brand as it were, could be seen as some Mickey Mouse My Space clone unless there are more options to make them unique and a little bit interesting - even if they are, essentially, glorified parking pages.
I didn't realize that the sites you create at me.tv are subdomains. Also, how do you monetize them? The FAQ's are sort of sparce. Lastly, since I came in very late to this, you have to either reg or transfer a name to me.tv. It is not enough just to own one. i.e. me.tv is a registrar / reseller. correct?
Well to me, I would have thought that just the basic ability for users to also post a link to a video was a no-brainer. It sucks that something so seemingly obvious was not worked out.
Has to be at enom.whatever, or me.tv.
I was transferring a couple, but now I think I will cancel them since this in reality doesn't help me at all and in fact hurts missingchildren.tv in a big way.
Looking back, I could have saved some cash, but I too thought I could use their tools more than I will be able to. So I regged most of my .tvs at enom banking on coming tools. Oh well. Live and learn.
But remember, the value of .TV does not rest in what Demand Media did on Tuesday night. It rests in what we do with it now.

I see, as i said, i only see these tools as an better alternative to parking pages nothing more, but i didn't really expect much more at this time to be honest.
All the tools we need are out there and the best and most succesfull sites will be custom made and not using some communal tools provided by DM.
PS i think your missingchildren site could be huge if developed right.

First off I agree with Showbiz that without users being able to participate it really dilutes the whole thing.
Bob this is what I always ssaid these would not be much the whole Britney at the mall example I gave. But people did think they would be more than this. I do not think you could have expected BrightCove but more than this clone of a million .tv's
MC no Me.tv is the tools tied to ENOM the registrar they are only providing ME tools to enom customers so you have to have a domain at enom not anywhere else.
