Cool Deathpenalty.tv

OVT of 43,000 & google hits 58,000,000.

I am following the advice given to me by some forum members - if you gonna reg a TV, you got to want it bad eough to develop it - anything else and its sheer pot luck.

Well, I am fascinated by reality crime shows such as forensic files, the first 48, and am sure there are more than just me hooked on this genre.

I am particularly fascinated by the death penalty concept and those states and countries that have it, carry it out and in some cases actually video the deaths.

I believe it would make an excellent fit with the TV ext because it could show clips of men and women on death row, interviews by TV pudits on the subject and make for a great debate forum.......

So, how much is this domain worth??? I really know the answer now - "don't care".....the real question is how much time can I devote to this project and how much will it cost me to develop the site!!

Any developers/programers out there who may want to help out on this oe, please PM me.......

Thanx

Cool

If you really got the passion for this material it doesn't matter what we say it is worth and frankly I don't think you are alone in your interest in this subject matter. I do believe there will be a hesitation from mainstream to advertise with you. On the otherhand some "fringe elements" that might advertise with you may already have a limited outlet ad wise for their offerings.

Kinda a catch 22 which could be in your favor. I would also leverage the smuggled outta the joint underground video flavor to generate a viral buzz. Get an attorney to protect yourself from the get go though.

Check out MugShots.com, very viral with a big following.

Cheers!

WineGuy

Costs to dev, stick with us on this board,. I think we are locating the most cost effective solutions for dot TV.

Go to BrightCove.com and sign up for there free commercial trial. If you have any video already they even have a trial for the FlixPro encoding software to convert you vid to flash, very neat and easy to use. By the way a lot of the type of video you are talking about may be public domain which will save you a ton of dough in licensing fees and get you up and running a little faster, that was maybe, I haven't researched it but have a hunch.

Tell em WineGuy and NamePros sent ya.

Cheers!

DOH,

Sometimes just good luck will suffice....especially if you think its a waste of money - adding the rest of your statement comes across as a little spiteful.....IMHO.

hi millers,

not spiteful, i just shake my head at some of the .TV domains people reg. yes i have made the same mistake but i try to learn from them and not keep regging "maybe or i might get lucky" domains. more thought is needed or splash out on a decent premium .tv and develop. i just think deathpenalty.tv is a long shot but i wish you well with it and i hope you prove me wrong.

best wishes

Thank you Doh,

There...you gave me your honest opinion in a very construtive manner......I have to say I agree with your overall sentiment and am learning rather too quickly the addictiveness and cost of registering domain names......

So I have recently (this weekend) changed tactics and will throw mmyself into the one project that I have as a passion and interest - crime & punishment and particularly the debate surrrounding the death penalty - I really do sit on the fence on that point.....I believe there is loads f development potential - it will be difficult to decide....but that makes it all the more exciting!!

All my 107 other reg's will be parked and earn little money if anything for the next year until I let go at least 100 of them....

Some tough lessons to be learnt in this game at entry level!!!

It would be great if people can give their honest opionion on a .TV domain name before someone registers it, but obviously there is no way to make such a system work. After someone registers a .tv domain I think an honest opionion is important, but lets try and keep the over enthusiasm positive. We are all looking to make our .tv names successful so lets try and cheer each other on and give positive ideas while keeping the put downs to a minimum. I'm not saying that is someone registers smellmysocks.tv that we shouldn't be honest about how "stinky" that register was, but there are ways to do it in a nice way.

I really agree with what wineguy said above, if someone has the passion for something then it doesn't really matter what anyone else says. Ideas (and domains) are a dime a dozen, but show me an entrepreneur with passion and you have a winner.

Good Luck to everyone here!

This is a rather dark domain name. Depressing, and with a rather limited niche. That having been said, however, I could definately see this as a primary site for a rights advocate group to focus on the inhumanity of the death penalty - perhaps broadcasting the final interviews with prisoners who were later found to be innocent. Or prisoners who were reprieved and proven innocent after spending years in prison under constant threat of death. Or, videos and discussions about the inhumane ways some states or countries are killing prisoners.

Maybe focus on a relatively closed society, such as Saudia Arabia's closed courtrooms and swift punishments they deal out, etc....

If you could reach the right people, the domain could be one of those that have an impact on society. An honest, candid, brutal exploration on the death penalty is certainly needed in our society - and I am sure that, once built, there might be a group or two interested in buying it from you and fleshing it out.

Not a pleasant topic, but like I said: If done properly, this could be one of those sites that has an impact on our society.

Good luck.

Live television broadcasts of criminals being put to death.

I doubt that's what you intended, but it was the first thing that entered my mind when seeing the domain in the thread title.

I don't know if that's good, bad or irrelevant, but that's what hit me.

Definitely a hot topic. One that would need careful development to be sucessful.

The putting to death of the condemned across the world on live TV or prerecorded video was the main reason to justify the .TV extention and yes, the sensationalism could get the site heavy traffic......

But I really want to make this site more than that. I would go for interviews with the condemned, families of their victims, rabbis and priests for their views, prison wardens etc etc.

Furthermore, it would include a seperate section on Death Row, another section on existing and upcoming trials that could mean that if the accused is found guilty, the death sentence may be handed out - forums on the death penalty topic, the avenues and content for this site could be a labour of love that could and would involve all my time outside of my day job....who knows where this could take me...

Again, if there are any web designers/ programmers who would be willing to give me a hand on making this site work, I would be happy to offer part ownership.

I have the audacity and entrepeneurial skills to do what no one has yet done, but I am no computer techie....it is this area that I will need a trusting, helping hand.

For those of you willing to take up the challenge, I promise one thing.....the trip will be absolutely amazing and possibly quite lucrative!!

You might, after careful consideration as to the amount of hours involved and clearly defining goals, think about acquiring a lawyer who specializes in the field for input. Perhaps they would work gratis on condition of being listed as one of the sponsors of the site.....

do you think you will get the "one" TV feed out of san quentin even if they did allow it to be televised at all? i am sure FOX or CNN etc would be up against you bidding on it.

internetbroadcast.tv is getting better

good luck but please think/reseach/read more which i am sure you are doing.

i am also sure there are a couple of people in here that are honest/ethical enough for you to ask advice first(by pm) before regging.

But I think that
a. if san Quentin ever did go down that road they would never auction the feed - I cannot think of any worse publicity than a network bidding over a condemned mans' impending death - San Quentin would have to make it public domain....IMHO

b. This website could include footage of excutions on a global scale - I admit - one could call this sensationalist TV - which I am not inherently against, but more than that, the site could act as a monitor of death penalty stats - the type of death sentences etc etc.....

However, I do appreciate all your advice to date. Please keep it coming
