i was approached through whois by one of national sport union for my domain
this sport is huge there, its in the top 5 in this country, sponsored by many, including one of the biggest bank, national (sport) tv,lot of products suppliers, mags, sport drink, travel agency etc ...
its a generic sport domain, like football.tv, tennis.tv etc
They have 2 sites now, official and informal (non generic name )
really i was a bit schock to read the email, and the question of what would you ask for it, is haunting me
i see fussball .tv (Germany) sold for $28k in march this year,
further could not find any names excet Golf.tv for $600k
Thats great, but you need to determine did you buy the name for a quick buck or did you really want to make a decent quid out of the name. If its the later I would place it on sedo and see what response you get through an auction or better still throw the question right back at them, ask what they would like to buy it for, you maybe surprised.
I to also own a couple of sport names netball.tv and wingsuit.tv Not at all big sports, although Im hoping to find a committed end user!
i just need one good sale rigth know, then i can sit on my names for years,
and yes, i would keep this for a decent sale, not for quick flip.
What i was thinking exactly was not the price but more "a nice move"; should i give them a price, or should i say "please give a good offer, then we can talk -style "
As for to throw on Sedo, i dont believe it will catch more interest, at least for now. May be i'll just give them a question, what would they pay for ...
Let them no your interested however and that it would need to be the right offer. Simply ask them do you have a starting price? and just see where that takes you.
Goodluck and keep us posted if they contact you with a price
bono- when you are approaching them, you need to sound professional- asking them for a starting price or saying please give a good offer is not- it sounds like you are lost and have to idea of the value of your name.
you simply want to say-
We are currently accepting and evaluating offers on this domain. If you would like to submit an offer, we welcome you to do so and we will promptly respond. Thank you for your interest.

Good advice from Smash
I would also try and create a little urgency, maybe try and imply that you have had other offers and this is why your are trying to evaluate all interested parties offers.
** I have spent the last months working with a sales team so all i can think about it sales talk, one of the main things they continually try to convey to the customer is that there is a urgent need to grab this domain/product before a competitor does. I was sceptical at 1st when my sales team used lines like this but it works well when trying to close a deal (In my experience anyway)
Good Luck with this,
Ronnie
