The Mobi Flower Game

How much will flowers.mobi be sold for?
The winner of the game is the one who
guesses the closest price.

My guess is:

$ 63.000

Flowers are a terrible product to sell from an alternative extension. They are not a generic product where the quality can be guaranteed and the customer will need alot of reassurance on quality before ordering because it's important to a particular relationship they have. They will only get that reassurance online by buying from a bricks and mortar website or an established online flower retailer which is bound to have .com domain.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/680120-the-mobi-flower-game.html

Buying flowers on a mobile phone doesn't make any sense, I have an HTC Desire handset, I carry it with me round the clock but I would never buy anything on it because I want to see big photos of what I'm buying, do some price comparison, maybe look at some reviews of the store, and I don't want the hassle of cranking through a long check out process with the delivery details and message as minimum and possibly my details and card details on top if its my first time using the site.

When I buy flowers when I am not at home or work, I go to Google.co.uk on my phone, I get the shop details up for the store I use near where a particular person lives, all I have to do is touch the phone number on the screen and the phone dials, I ask the shop what they have fresh in, maybe agree some colours and the price, read out my card details, recipient details, and message, and I am done. I have used the local flower shop before, I know I can rely on the quality and they are cheaper and better than networks like Inter Flora or big UK stores selling flowers as a sideline like Tesco or M&S.

The only .mobi site I use on my phone is a TV streaming site, I don't pay any subscription or give them my card details. That's the sort of site that is ideal for a .mobi. Other products that work are stock prices, maps, directories, price comparison sites, phone apps, mobile games, what's on guides, restaurant review sites, car park finders, anything where you can bring a page up instantly and it doesn't involve typing in personal details or handing over your credit card details.

With no back story, Flowers.mobi would sell for less than $5,000. With a $200,000 "miracle" sale in 2008, there is bound be some kind of rub with the auction so it wouldn't surprise me if it sold for a very big multiple of what it is actually worth.

I disagree with akcampbell. New phones such as iphone4 and droid offer big screens with crystal clear display. Buying flowers or anything via mobile is not an issue and will become normal practice as we move forward!

My totally off the cuff guess is that it sells around 200k, though the extension might actually vary that by a factor of 10.

Flowers is a huge cpc keyword and deserves some respect, even in .mobi

Flowers is a monster keyword, even in a bad extension. With the story behind it I think it will sell for around $20K. I will put an official guess at $18,500.

I think without the history it would sell for Mid $X,XXX - Low $XX,XXX.

What does it mean for dotmobi if this domain is sold for a high or low price, from a domainer's perspective?

My guess is that the auction will be rigged and that it will sell for over $200k to an anonymous buyer. Just my personal guess and I have no intimate knowledge that this is fact.

Rick gets a lot of heat for this domain and I can't imagine why he's selling it knowing full well he'll likely get considerably less than what he paid. Anyone have a clue why he would sell this in the open market for what's sure to be a loss?

In case the auction is legit then I'd say $12,700.

There was some speculation during the original flowers.mobi sale which also was sold at TRAFFIC in 2006. Why a guy who runs the auction has a chance to bid is beyond me? At the time there was rumors it was bid up by Flowers.com. Schwartz had ties to the mobi people as they paid him commission to sell premium mobi's at his TRAFFIC.

http://mtld.mobi/node/1135

mTLD used I believe 3 TRAFFIC's to auction "premium" mobi domains. The biggest seller was in fact the biggest buyer. And that's not suspicious?

Me personally..I think it stinks of corruption, upselling, and market manipulation.

Schwartz helped doom mobi by creating a boom so high that it was sure to bust. Flowers.mobi should have gone to flowers.com for proper usage and development. Now it's too late.

But because of this history I really believe there is a chance this domain will go for more than $200k as an attempt by some to raise mobi values or at the very least for Schwartz to save face. If this domains sells for less than $50k then everyone will be able to point forever to Flowers.mobi as the worst domain failure by our legendary "domain king". Ironic that Don King is going to be there.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=680120

A sale of less than even $100k will be contrary to many statements the Domain King has made about holding domains and their value being exponential. He's one of those strident domain holders that rarely sells and in the cases he has sold it's domains for high $xxx, xxx or in the millions.

So what is he up to?

You konw, he owns a lot of mediocre names too. So flowers.mobi was not his first bad domain. Also, the name was on Fusu back then, not sure if it still is. But he doesn't seem to believe in that name anymore.

Despite the hype, attendance at domainer conventions ain't what it used to be. I'd say he needs the money. Huge egos suck up huge amounts of money. So if he figured the sit-on-your-ass and make money gravy train would last forever, then he probably spent money foolishly. What other reason could there be for selling something you paid $200k for in a down market where you'd be lucky to get one-tenth that amount now?

Hi thanks for the info. Seems that was the second highest mobi sale ever, and it was direct from the registry, not aftermarket.

Found more info here
http://www.thedomains.com/2009/09/08...ells-for-135k/
Quote:
Moniker just announced that it has brokered the sale of Casino.mobi to Infomeda Ltd for $135,000.

This sale represents the second highest price ever paid for a .mobi name.

As you may recall, Flowers.mobi sold for $200K, Fun.mobi for $100K RealEstate.mobi for $85,000.

Certainly this is the highest priced paid for a .mobi since the extension’s initial release premium auctions held at TRAFFIC shows in 2007.

The resale market for .Mobi’s has been very quite, to say the least, almost non-existent, over the last year, making this sale even more surprising.
