Waiting for a Sign....

I've been on the sideline for a while now as far as .mobi projects go. I've been busy on other projects but I can't help not getting back into the .mobi state of mind when I am bent over the domain renewal barrel listening to godaddy, cheapnames, and namecheap laughing over my shoulder...I at least negotiated with GoDaddy for a bulk renewal of a couple hundred domains so I know I did the best I can...

So this brings me to the "when will my mobile investments pay off?" thought...(for all you haters, I'm keeping it to my mobile investments, not .mobi specific or your or everyone's mobile investments so put your flame throwers back in their holsters)...

Funny thing is, I've developed a handful of sites - mainly transportation related and the one mobile directory Wazobi.mobi (which btw is continuing to grow, getting about 30,000 uniques a month with over 3,000 mobile site listings - I think that type of info is good for all mobile interests) - but I haven't monetized anything. Not that I expect a lot of $ but I should probably do something...but thats for another day.

I've decided that I am not going to worry about my return on mobile investments until the day comes when all (USA talking here) mobile phone plans come standard with unlimited data/web browsing as part of there basic plan. That is a bright line indicator for me that if mobile web use on the phone is going to go mainstream, it will then. It's easy enough to measure. Those plans ar $99 now (and that's relatively new, from Sprint I believe first) and the competition is hot already from the other big carriers.

This is just my own little measuring stick for when I will expect to start seeing returns. "To each his own" so again, flame throwers soundly parked in the holsters please.

When the $39 plan is typical from all carriers and includes unlimited data/web browsing, I will start measuring...after a year or so I will decide whether the investment was worth it or not.

Rep'd.
Good observations, well balanced point of view (in my opinion).
And you are in good company, any sound investor has an open mind in these issues- glad you do.

The Mobile Market will be there, It's been a year now since a started my own personal collection of the .mobi's that I now have and I'm only now actually viewing (and making formating adjustments) with my primary site (dash8) through my own mobile unlimited internet service through AT&T.

Anyone can choose any domain to build their mobile site upon, I certainly don't discriminate against mobile sites that are functional and formated for mobile devices that are using .com as a mobile platform.

It doesn't matter to me, as long as it's formated correctly, I personally don't care what extension it's on.

However, I will not be developing any mobile sites, via subdomain.com.
