| NamePros Member | Is having a mobile.yourcompany.com unprofessional? I have often heard dotmobi naysayers argue for the other mobile standards: 1)mobile.yourcompany.com 2)m.yourcompany.com 3)yourcompany.com/mobile, etc.... What I find very curious and quite ironic in fact is how many argued against subdomaining, when the Internet was starting. A lot of services offered at the time, free hosting along with a free subdomain (yourcompany.geocities.com, yourcompany.tripod.com, etc). Many individuals didn't want to invest in getting a "yourcompany.com" and opted for the free stuff. So, what changed it all? 1) Something called having professionalism. How unprofessional it is to have a subdomain (yourcompany.whatever.com) vs a "yourcompany.com". 2) Having a short address; easy recall. 3) A relatively cheap investment in having "yourcompany.com". 4) The credibility factor. 5) Search engine rankings and optimization. 6) Having naming rights. 7) A true web presence and a brand. 8) Advertising of your domain with a more professional outlook. and so forth. So, what am I getting at? All the points made at the time where valid and continue to be valid to this very day. And as much as others may disagree this is why companies will transition to having dotmobis, it just makes sense. Why would a company jeopardize looking cheap, unprofessional, and loose branding their company as part of the new mobile internet?
