Why is it better to develop?

I am big fan of development and I have been very busy doing that lately. I would like to know how development increases the value of a domain?

content is still king, once you develop it with content, backlinks to it increases as being indexed by search engines and also activities on it increases, esp. if it's developed as a blog with xml feed and seo friendly urls, or developed as a forum.

I wrote few articles for my sites and then published those articles in article directory(EZINE). Now this is getting me regular money from viral article marketing. If your domain is not generating any search engine traffic or typo traffic than it is recommended to develop site and add good content on it with affiliate product matching content.
thx
