What have/will the "dotmobi Investors" done?

I should just write a message to dotmobi but don't really have time now.

What have and more importantly what will the dotmobi Investors (the list of companies touted at dotmobi.mobi) done to promote the mission of dotmobi?

They dont have to promote .mobi. Its not up to them. I'm sure those companies invest in all different types of things every single year.

Very little, as nrmillions has said they don't have to promote .mobi and may really just be passive investors. The prevailing view when the extension came out was quite different though, especially since mtld made such a big deal about these backers.

No, they don't have to promote dotmobi, of course...

But, I think it would be fantastic if the backers of dotmobi combined to use their resources to promote & establish the brand....And, more - worked to find mechanisms to develop the channels & the technology to ensure .mobi is THE mainstream extension of 1st choice on the mobile web...

They have already invested in .mobi....That's good....If they were to proactively work to build it out there, then they would get a vastly greater return on that investment - and that'd be good for them, and us.

I can't see what's in it for backers of this quality to sit on their hands....I can only hope they are not.

the question wasn't whether they have to or not, that's obvious.

Yes, companies do. My point was more along the lines of the comment about the big deal dotmobi made.

To the comment about them just being passive investors. Yes, obviously they could. But on the other hand these are companies with large stakes in the mobile industry - who help to drive the mobile industry.

by promote I don't mean market. They made an investment for a reason. Possibly that reason has changed or doesn't exisit anymore but that is not really the question. At some point, these companies said "yes, the dotmobi extention seems like a worthwhile place to put some capital". Regardless of how big or small, they chose to do it. What return on that capital where they looking for? Mechanically speaking, how did they feel dotmobi would benefit their business?
