| NamePros Regular | How to determine a good .mobi? ok, after getting kicked in the nuts repeatedly on my .mobi picks I figure I should ask for some help. I'd like to hear what each of you do to determine if a .mobi name is worth registering. Here is what I have been doing.
I'm looking at all angles on the .mobis, from parking, to resale to development. I can see me doing all of the above for any of the domains I purchase. So, what else should I be doing? Thanks! Sean

| NamePros Regular | So once you determine the app that could be developed, how do you determine what is the best domain for it?

| Senior Member | if you are planning to develop a mobi domain, i think you have a lot of flexibility in choosing a domain name; i really think the name itself should be catchy but i don't think you need to spend $$$$ your content will most likely drive traffic. as jeff said, if your intent is to solely trade names, buy from the secondary market. better yet, if you are completely new, try trading more established tlds like dotcom names since its market is more liquid (established) so you have a less chance of being stuck with it. remember, generic keyword names move quicker than a brandable ones (although you may potentially get more bucks for the latter if you find an end user) good luck! |

| Senior Member | mbuna, as someone noted - 'think' outside the box! In other words, 'what would you' look up on a mobile internet device? Sports scores, local movies, restaurants?? What else? What would others look up or be needing, medical advice, shopping sales, area codes, real estate and homes? What would people use the mobile internet for? Games, Stock reports, Pornography etc. etc. There are so many things that would apply to people searching for on an 'on the go' internet device. But there are also many subjects and fields, that won't be applicable to searching from them too. And that is what you need to beware of, regging names just because it is open, though they'd have real low useability. It's what is practical and useable subjects or services, that 'others' would search for.

| Account Closed | yup, and "safe bet" regs are pretty much gone. Those left are generally riskier, but possibly can bring big ROI. A large percentage of them would not be reg'd by most here, the others probably would cause debate on whether it was worth regging. So murky waters, mBuna. |

| NamePros Regular | Jeff is spot on. domains that are relevant to a person out in the world needing data to help them on the go. subjects like: Book this, call that, findhere, howcanigetthere, whenisthis? whereisthat? localstuff, travelinfo? whatcanidoincaseofemergency, orderamassage, nearestliqourstore, adinfinitum ........... lots of subjects. look at keyword phrases for domains. 2, 3 word domains. |
