What makes a great .MOBI?

Ok.... I need a quick rundown on what makes a good .mobi?

The reason why I ask is that I found a domain name that is taken in every category besides .mobi. The google AdWords CPC for this word is $1.81 and goes as high as $3.40 for other variations.

But... I did a search on the term and its only searched 44 times according to WordTracker and 36 times according to Overture. Which is very low.

I'm not going to develope this site. I'll just list it for sale.

Is it worth registering a .mobi like this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

every mobi is special... j/k

pm me and i'd tell you what i think.

generally things to look for with your info are whether it serves a mobile use (but think out of the box); not too long (many think this is only a factor), easy to spell, etc. all reg'd but mobi is encouraging, but not dispositive.

I just registered vpnclient.mobi. What do you guys think?

I figured with mobile phones becoming more powerful, it will be only a matter of time before you can connect to your desktop from anywhere.

Welcome to #1 Namepros, NPKJB!

If you're not planning on developing or other specific "exit strategy", I would generally advise that you NOT hand register any .MOBI domains ... considering instead the possible purchase of domain names that may be for sale in the secondary market - domains, as advised above, that are generic, short(er), "keywords", potential for traffic, easily brandable, perceived having added value, and ease for mobile application & (again) development, etc!
All the best!
-Jeff

Hi Jeff

I hope you don't mind me asking but I'd be interested in knowing where your own back-ground lies in the domain / internet / IT industry as you have a very self-assured manner which tells me that you genuinely know your stuff.... (& you have made 1 or 2 posts in the last few years ;-)
I'm a self-confessed newbie with no internet / IT experience or for that matter, any real knowledge so I can't offer any background gems or anything.
You are quite clearly cautious about .mobi & whilst I may disagree with you on many points, I can only do so by instinct rather than being sure of my views because of any basis in fact....
I would genuinely be interested in knowing what your background is & where your experience comes from (Mine is arboriculture & Real estate) and rather than being a 'Jeff basher' I'd prefer to understand more about your reticence regarding .mobi / speculative regging etc.. (the latter being a point I would agree with as there are literally hundreds of real dogs of .mobi domains up for sale / appraisal at any given time just on the forums..... definitely an argument for having 1x killer domain than 100x dead ducks).
If you prefer to PM me I'd be happy to exchange a few notes with you but I'm happy on the public forum too...

Kind regards

Gary.

P.s. this is all about trying to understand more about the forum members in general.... hence the age poll (which has surprised me a little given the average age is a good 20% higher than I expected)..... rather than try to argue our own little corners I think its time we built both up & outwards to see if that gives us more of a collective 'edge' - all good stuff over on Mobility for example with the MAG chapter & all...
