Praise from Jeff makes me slightly nervous in the current context, but I do agree with him on at least one key point - so it's all good.

I'll update my own (Sedo gripe) auction thread soon, as soon as someone posts there - I want to keep it alive for obvious reasons.

I have no doubt that any sensible bidder will normally wait until the last possible moment to bid in earnest.

And that's exactly why I keep going on about all 100 of these things expiring at the same hour and the same minute.

My fear is that after the initial excitement at the start, things might slow to a crawl and everyone stops bidding in the realization that their rivals are waiting for the final minutes in order not to tip their hand too early.

I don't think I need to spell out what might happen if that occurs, and why everything ending in the same minute is practically guaranteed to detract value (compared to what would have happened in the normal course of events, i.e. in a phased start/end timing arrangement).

Right now the extrapolations are still slowing down, but only because the first hour or so had such a strong volume.

I think (and hope) that what we are seeing in the last hour or so is that fresh blood (to use what sounds like the Traffic auctioneer's favorite phrase) from Asia is coming in and keeping things moving at a somewhat better pace than in the previous several hours.

Let's please not turn this into a rant on Jeff thread encore (not targetting you specifically here PV, just a plea to everyone)..

The bottom line is.. Jeff is right. We can be as happy as we want about the bids, but the bottom line is that if I really wanted to, I could bid $1 under every single posted reserve just for the hell of it. It doesn't mean I'm actually interested in the names -- it might mean I'm trying to fake demand...

At the end of the day, all that matters are names for which the reserves are met and result in completed transactions. We'll all have to keep posted on that, but in all honesty, I think some of the predicted sales volumes are a little excessive when one considers the very large reserves some of these names have.. To date, there are still far, far more names with reserves not met than met, and until that changes, Jeff is correct and imo, being more "real" than someone who actually thinks mtld already has $200k in the bank.
