Great find. Rep added.

What will they call the Google Phone?

gPhone, Google Mobile?

curious to hear input from the NP community/predictions? and what you think would be the best name besides "Gmobi"

Yes, it would. Since they are a "backer" of .mobi, there is a possibility of that, but I would have to concede a very small possibility.

I'm saying a prayer before bed tonight, and I rarely pray.

- gphone.com is owned by Global Phone
- gtalk.com is owned by hasbro.
- googlephone.com seems to be owned by a guy in the UK although it's not being used and it's a tm violation so Google could simply use it.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/367146-google-phone-just-two-weeks-away.html
- googlemobile.com is under construction and claims to be "Go Ogle Mobile"
- gmobile.com is parked with no whois info.

Based on this I'm thinking it'll be one of the last two. Plus, calling it a "phone" is too limiting for Google.

This is awesome

Perhaps, then, I won't get a refill with my insurance policy on my Treo 700w that 50% doesn't work.. 2 year policy and absorb the fee hehe.. i wonder what it is..

Google phone? cmon that's a classic piece, collectible.. for all times..

Plus, exciting for domain/website owners (current internet) is the possible ad based network being speculated on the phone itself ..

Perhaps the dotmobi consortium relations have helped alot in negotiations and forthwright

Kind Regards,

Yelo

I would think "Google Phone." It makes sense. Look at the names of their other products:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=367146

Google Talk
Google Earth
Google Finance
Google Sky
Google Checkout
Google Maps
Google Desktop
Google Notebook
Google Phone

It just makes sense. Besides, "gPhone" just sounds like a rip of "iPhone."

Who knows, I could be wrong

Be careful here, they're starting to crack down on domains like this. Why would anyone buy or register goggle.com or something similar? Only reason is to steal traffic from google. Clear case for cybersquatting there.

Agreed. Goggle.com is somewhat safe, because they could present a case for having registered the name originally with the intention of developing a site about Googles and now having the name parked because they no longer have use for it (possibly able to win a UDRP in such a way). Nevertheless, I'd steer clear.

Yes, but "gogglePhone" is clear cut cybersquatting.

I do realize that Google did team up with Samsung. And that At&T and Apple hooked up. But this is really cornering the market in hopes of excluding the competition by all means.

Point being ok so Its Googles phone. But will it just contain Adsense. I am quite sure yes. I would say sticky/stinky business.

BTW - REECE, loved the link to the article about the chocolate studies at Stanford,

Cheers

I'm looking forward to seeing how much it costs. With how much they make off people clicking adverts (sometimes >$100 on me daily), I'd imagine they'll have a very competitive Internet plan + Google homepage

Of course just like Google and Dell teamed up to make Google the homepages. And now Google is hooking up with CNN as well. I guess with Google needing as much as media attention as possible for a more postive look on their company. Including buying up YouTube and having their ad placements now with many users in an uproar.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=367146

Bought the Dell laptop and everything Google it made me gag. Dont get me wrong, I love certain Google wemabster tools. Its the unnoticed monopoly they are having. At times they appear to be the elephant in the living room everyone ignores.

I do love the iPods. To me a company should expand into many areas or atlest attempt to do so. But not to monopolize either. And I am sure that Samsung is whistling a awesome tune atm as well.

How soon will the phone get hacked like the Apple phone did.

I think I have a tough time understanding cybersquatting (I don't mean to go off topic here). Some could argue that by owning a typo, I would actually be HELPING the consumer find what they're looking for. If they don't know how to spell the product name then a typo site will guide them to the right place. Clearly I wouldn't want to pretend to be associated with Google or use any trademarked images and if they wanted to take it then I wouldn't argue with them.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=367146

Am I just trying to oversimplify the issue? What am I missing here?

The issue is the intent with which the domain was registered. That seems to be the deciding factor in many of the cases. If the intent was to reg the name to ride on the heels of another's name to make a profit, for example a typo of google, then it is usually ruled as cybersquatting.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=367146

I know about this because the first domain name I ever bought was a typo like this, and it got blacklisted on all of the parking services. Wasn't taken away, but it could be at any time. Really doesn't matter though because I can't make any money from it anyway.

Thanks Garret. That makes sense. But I would argue that my capital gain is THE RESULT of my site helping consumers find their site. In other words, my intent is to help them, and PROSPECTING typos takes time and justifies some payment in return.

Moreover, if the consumer ends up on a blank page (if no one regs the typo) then the consumer will likely do a standard google search where the trademark holder pays a much higher PPC and they're inundated with a much wider selection of competitors.

I'm not trying to condone typosquatting, but I think it actually serves a purpose beyond "stealing profit", that ultimately benefits the trademark holder.

Seems concrete to me

Gphone would be the all encompassing "handle" everyone uses to refer to it to fit in with the iphone revolution imho. However to keep it seperate from apples i series it makes sense as stated prior that googlephone is the most sensible to fit in with their branding. What else would it be called unless they decide to create an entirely new phone company with some wild new name. Gtel? Gcell, gtalk?? They are developing this phone with other corps so who knows what it could end up being due to influence of others involved with the development.

Gphone is already trademarked but there is an issue over it (of course). Many are gambling on gphone but its seems illogical that google would want to identify their product in association with a competitor. Unless they are considering capitalizing on this new referance to smartphones using i or g or what ever it may be.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=367146

This is a criticasl subject for speculation and I sure hope we are all on the bandwagin when g?? hits the market soon!

With all the hype its certainly real. This much press is for a reason. Google doesnt have to advertiose it . They slowly leak info out as they require to get their stock to rise on speculation of its premiere and when it hits the market will explode with sales and profits. Its no joke!
