![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | iPhone Annihilates Mobi's Future? Read the article and then decide: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/te...7pogue.html?hp It seems that the iPhone does away with the need for mobi-formatted websites. I think that by the time the mobi is promoted, it will have to compete with the cheaper mass produced iPhones and similar handhelds that everyone can buy for a few bucks. So who is going to need or want a .mobi by then? Okay, now that I've stated the facts and an opinion, I'm taking cover. So go ahead and sling the mud, launch a barrage of accusatory hate speech, and pat each other on the back for sticking together. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Facts You want facts? Take a look at what the nytimes.com looks like on an iphone: http://www.apple.com/iphone/usingiphone/guidedtour.html Now look at their pricing plans: http://www.apple.com/iphone/easysetup/rateplans.html I'm already paying $79 a month on my current cell plan. I gotta get one. I can't wait around for the .mobi to become what the iphone apparently is already. With all due respect, get you head out of the sand. |

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/343691-iphone-annihilates-mobis-future.html And that, sir, is where .mobi comes into play. ![]()
P.S. - I hope that someday you can realize that there are many of us .mobi investors who are glad that we refused to "get our head out of the sand"! For example, duskdawn probably isn't complaining about his $10,000 sale of LGD.mobi!

"If they are found to discourage the development, buying, selling, and usage of .mobi names without reason these threads will be closed or deleted depending on the original topic." "without reason?" I am justifying my reasons. Suppose you had a forum for the development of online grocery deliveries, and the topic was webvan.com. Would you boot someone for pointing out the weaknesses in the development and promotion of webvan? I believe that a lot of people wanted to hear only the good news about such development back then and they ultimately lost millions. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=343691 This forum has a lot of smaller domainers who are sinking a lot of money in the .mobi. I think it is only fair to point out the new mobi-relevant issues so these domainers can make an informed decision about their mobi portfolios. | ||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The iPhone Matches Most of Its Hype That's funny stuff. The word Most equates to annihilation in some people's minds. What do those same minds interpret these words from the same article? (bold and color enhanced for the reading impaired) There’s no memory-card slot, no chat program, no voice dialing. You can’t install new programs from anyone but Apple; other companies can create only iPhone-tailored mini-programs on the Web. The browser can’t handle Java or Flash, which deprives you of millions of Web videos. The two-megapixel camera takes great photos, provided the subject is motionless and well lighted (samples are here). But it can’t capture video. And you can’t send picture messages (called MMS) to other cellphones. Apple says that the battery starts to lose capacity after 300 or 400 charges. Eventually, you’ll have to send the phone to Apple for battery replacement, much as you do now with an iPod, for a fee. Then there’s the small matter of typing. Tapping the skinny little virtual keys on the screen is frustrating, especially at first. Two things make the job tolerable. First, some very smart software offers to complete words for you, and, when you tap the wrong letter, figures out what word you intended. In both cases, tapping the Space bar accepts its suggestion. Second, the instructional leaflet encourages you to “trust” the keyboard (or, as a product manager jokingly put it, to “use the Force”). It sounds like new-age baloney, but it works; once you stop stressing about each individual letter and just plow ahead, speed and accuracy pick up considerably. Even so, text entry is not the iPhone’s strong suit. The BlackBerry won’t be going away anytime soon. The bigger problem is the AT&T network. In a Consumer Reports study, AT&T’s signal ranked either last or second to last in 19 out of 20 major cities. My tests in five states bear this out. If Verizon’s slogan is, “Can you hear me now?” AT&T’s should be, “I’m losing you.” Then there’s the Internet problem. When you’re in a Wi-Fi hot spot, going online is fast and satisfying. But otherwise, you have to use AT&T’s ancient EDGE cellular network, which is excruciatingly slow. The New York Times’s home page takes 55 seconds to appear; Amazon.com, 100 seconds; Yahoo, two minutes. You almost ache for a dial-up modem. These drawbacks may be deal-killers for some people. On the other hand, both the iPhone and its network will improve. Apple points out that unlike other cellphones, this one can and will be enhanced with free software updates. That’s good, because I encountered a couple of tiny bugs and one freeze. (There’s also a tantalizing empty space for a row of new icons on the Home screen.) A future iPhone model will be able to exploit AT&T’s newer, much faster data network, which is now available in 160 cities.[B] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=343691 So I guess you have to buy 2 of them. One to have when you mail the one in to have the battery replaced (for a fee...those crafty folks at apple) and use both at the same time to cut your browsing and loading time in half? Two minutes for Yahoo? Damn, if I'm not there in 5 seconds I'm gone. Can ya hear me now?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The iphone does not eliminate the need to build mobi-compliant sites. The iphone's browser along with deepfish, opera etc do. And if thats not enough, it's the m.whatever.com or whatever.com/mobile that are compliant through "advanced rendering technology" that will prove .mobi as valuable and useful as .bz imho. The iphone ads appear to be not only crapping all over the .mobi extension, but the "mobile web" as well. It simply says "this is the internet" period. No mwhatever.com or whatever.com/mobile. Just .com Opera and deepfish are also capable of viewing .com sites. Although opera seems to be showing more of a .mobi appearance and "waterdowned" version, however its showing a much quicker downloaded .com sites, not .mobi The iphone is not the .mobi killer, the millions of cellphones with these awesome browsers are imho. |

4. Any parties found to be constantly questioning the .mobi extension will find themselves asked to leave the .mobi forum. This forum was created to discuss the .mobi extension, not question its existence. You speak of annihilation of a tld (which is ridiculous) without drawing attention to the statements in the article, such as:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This is getting ridiculous. What do you care if my head is in the sand? Are you obsessed with my financial investments or what? It seems that you can't wait to come in here and denigrate, belittle and besmirch .mobi and its supporters, under the guise of trying to help noobs spend their money. Please stop trying to stir the pot and go get a life. I love NamePros but this harrassment has got to stop.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ? I clearly put a question mark in the title of the original post to get some ideas from both sides of the fence. So why is it that when someone criticizes the .mobi people become hostile and take it personally? Crica1850, I applaud you for pointing out the deficiencies in the iPhone. Would you care to also point out the deficiencies in the mobi sites already up, besides that most people have no idea what a .mobi is? Look, I bought 50 plus .mobis for the same reasons everyone else did. But I gotta tell you, I want to hear all the pros and cons of everything affecting the mobi before my renewal dates arrive. |
