![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | and actually they say 'it's not the watered down version of the internet ... it's the actual internet' well i have surfed the 'actual' internet on my dash, and it's a pain in arse. i would rather have a relevant to the point 'mobile' version just for ease of use.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Apple iPhone is not the "end all, be all" of the mobile internet. It will be limited to the small percentage of high end users. Not the masses. Also, it appears to be at least debatable if there are really two internets - one fixed, one mobile. Many articles lately seem to be mentioning "the mobile internet", implying the two are mutually exclusive. From a marketing and pro-mobi stance, I prefer "the mobile internet" term. I hope that mTLD market this approach as well.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For all of those who believe the new iPhone will be the death blow to .mobi, be prepared to shell out the expected $2000 for the two year deal to get this handy new pretty phone that (gulp!) does not live up to what it is touted to do. To all those that talk about the hype behind mobi, that hype apparently pales in comparison to the hype behind the launch and promotion going into the Apple iPhone. If you disagree with these points by the Technology columnist for Forbes Magazine, his email is at the bottom. Also, read the whole article. I only highlighted a couple of items. There are some pearls of wisdom that you may find interesting. Look for the part that Jobs hopes to capture a whooping 1% of the cell phone market with this iPhone. In the meantime, he claimed the delay on the new OS and the Leopard was due to pulling programmers and techs off of those projects to dedicate themselves to the iPhone, something that has not sit very well with Mac users and Apple shareholders. I personally like Steve Jobs' vision and innovations, but there are quite a bit of questions going around about the need for this as well as again, the failure to launch and delay the long awaited Leopard. http://www.forbes.com/home/wireless/...phonemain.html Why You May Not Want An iPhone Dan Frommer, 06.11.07, 6:00 AM ET But for whatever reason, Apple decided not to allow the iPhone to work on AT&T's fastest, "third-generation" (or 3G) wireless network, opting instead for its slower "EDGE" network. The difference is apparent even on a small-screen device browsing scaled-down, mobile-edition Web sites. When you're surfing full-size Web pages, as Apple touts on the iPhone, the slow speeds could be a deal breaker. http://www.forbes.com/2007/06/08/iph...hisSpeed=20000 In Pictures: Why You Don't Want An iPhone Network Speed The iPhone isn't equipped for AT&T's fastest "third-generation" (or 3G) wireless data network. Instead, iPhone users are stuck on an older, slower network, which means Web pages will take longer to load. In theory, iPhone users can also hook up to a wi-fi connection, but that's a less useful feature than it should be. Dan Frommer is a Technology Reporter at Forbes.com. ![]() ![]() ![]() | I like the iphone, if I could get it I would get one right now, the only problem is that I am stuck in a 2 year contract with Verizon (and on a family plan), and the phone is also $500. But it is cool. But also you can have a nice iPod and a nice regular phone/ or for a little extra a PDA that can surf the web, for half the price.

![]() ![]() ![]() | We are still only on 3g standards so i'd expect the iphone to be slow and annoying unless hooked up via wifi or 4g comes out! So i don't think this is the be all and end all for .mobi

![]() ![]() | dragon, check out importgsm.com -- they have all the latest, nicest phones. there's no one best phone, it depends on what you want in a phone, but take a look at the Nokia E95.. fm radio, GPS, 5 megapixel camera, and dedicated music player all built in... and it's not very bulky. DA

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Also check ZDNET.com or CNET.com. This is an incredible site with great reviews on all the latest gadgets from tech heads and geeks. They tear the thinks apart and rate them base on several criteria. Then they give links to the best place to buy. http://reviews.cnet.com/Cell_phones/...tml?tag=img.cp http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-6525_7-...2.html?tag=dir http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-6522_7-...8.html?tag=dir I use this site religiously for information and help in selecting products. Plus the mini clips of the products and the straight up pros and cons are great. |

Several tech sites and specs are not very taken in with the iPhone and have already said...WHY? Why did they not put the newest technology into the newest phone along with criticism as to how sluggish it operates as a web browser on a dot com page and for that it was a huge turn off. No one has to take my words for it. Read the forbes link. And for the record, I am as big a .com supporter as I am a .mobi supporter. I won't be using my laptops or PC's to view .mobi sites and I won't be using by cell for .com sites. Why is that so hard to understand? Also, I am very thankful we have members from other countries and nationalities here. Their insight to trends is most helpful and should be taken into consideration. But here are some other interesting articles and links: http://reviews.cnet.com/4321-6454_7-...ml?tag=bubbl_1 Best and worst cell carriers. http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-972...?tag=cnetfd.mt The iPhone requires an iTunes Store account Surprise, surprise! Before you can activate the iPhone, guess what is required? Of course, this came out in a press release today from Apple. http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-972...ag=recentPosts Sony Ericsson answers Apple http://www.cnet.com/2001-13387_1-0.html?tag=cnetfd.lwt http://reviews.cnet.com/4326-13387_7...tml?tag=inside Photo gallery: Today's latest and greatest smart phones http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9677208-1.html ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=338970 Thirteen reasons to doubt the iPhone hype http://www.cnet.com/4520-13387_1-673...tml?tag=inside Asia hints at mobile tech's future "If you want a glimpse of what you'll be doing with your cell phone in two or three years, you don't need a time machine. You simply need to travel to Japan or South Korea." The last is by far my favorite article. I am no tech head but all of this (and the above articles) shows what the future of .mobi will be. It's all about mobile. | ||||
