The .MOBI isn't being discussed specifically. However they are talking about visiting Vodafone's website to find out more about their mobile internet service, which allows users to surf the web from their handset.

Might this have something to do with the .MOBI or are they planning to launch a competing solution??

Here is the entire article:

"
Vodafone puts £16m behind WAP service
by Gareth Jones Marketing 13-Jun-07

Vodafone is launching a £16m integrated drive to position itself as a mobile-internet provider.

The campaign, its biggest for several years, launches on Sunday (17
June) with a simultaneous airing on 200 channels of a TV ad called 'Make
the most of now'.
Created by agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, the 90-second spot shows how
Vodafone's new mobile-internet service gives consumers the time to make
the most of their busy lives.
The ad features people in situations where they are unable to do
anything useful until they use the service.
Vodafone will support the TV work with its biggest outdoor advertising
campaign to date, with 900 premium poster sites booked across the UK for
the next 12 months.
The TV and outdoor activity will encourage people to visit Vodafone's
website and find out more about its mobile-internet service, which
allows users to surf the web from their handset for a fixed monthly
fee.
Online activity includes brand partnerships with eBay, Google, MySpace
and YouTube, as well as banner ads and 'homepage takeovers' on
high-traffic websites.
The campaign forms part of a wider brand refresh being overseen by
Dominic Chambers, head of brand and marketing at Vodafone, which will
see the mobile operator position itself as 'joyful' and 'fresh'.

Perhaps?

Unless they're developing their .MOBI and then advertising / promoting it ... I don't see the relevance for the post/thread here in the .MOBI Forum™, IMHO.

I'm not rooting for or against it ... but from what I read, at this time, I don't see it as being .MOBI "newsworthy"!

Best of Luck.

Seems like Vodafone is a .mobi investor. So it is relevant that they are pushing mobile and relevant that they are not (yet?) pushing .mobi.

Yes the article could be relevant we just don't know- thanks for the posted article though!.
I like articles that actually mention .mobi the reasons are obvious! 16 million (pounds) wouldn't hurt the .mobi cause at all!
