People....heads up! Read the United Arab Emirates trademark law. If they think that the "UAE.mobi" domain is not being used appropriately...they have a legal right to take from you.

Key here is DON'T USE IT FOR UNITED ARAB EMIRATES!
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/330887-uae-mobi.html

Also, seller...please clarify your minimum offer per PM as this will eliminate much confusion.

Thanks.

Could you clarify your statements, I've looked over the link and can't see the immediate problem with using this name for the United Arab Emirates. Any assistance and specific reference from the link page would be appreciated.

I do not want to get into a history lesson so I will just put it simply...the UAE is not a country in the same manner that other countries were formed. The UAE is a federation of several countries and tribes. Even though they gain independence in 1971, they were not officially chartered until their constitution was agreed upon and made permanent in 1996. Because they are such a new country, they have rights as both a country and a corporation. This puts them in a unique situation when dealing with international affairs...which is why they are growing so fast right now.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=330887

Bottom-line...the UAE can do things that some countries cannot do because of their international charter with the U.N. Since they are known internationally as the UAE, that gives them powers to exercise protections that many existing countries do not have which does include but not withstanding Intellectual Property rights.

Just something to watch out for people. I hoped that helped.

Thanks for expanding on your thoughts. Are you aware of any previous actions taken by United Arab Emirates in regards to the use of UAE?

There have been case studies on the UAE's Internet activities. Here is a report that details their policies and more on the things I mentioned:

Thanks for the additional information. What I see as a common thread is the enforcement of laws and internet censoring upon their own population, but what I don't see is any indication of attempts to take legal action against foreign entities in regards to the use of the acronym UAE. If they were to attempt such a thing regarding a domain name I would think they would be in pursuit of the Florida Company that owns UAE.com and uses it as a parking page.

UAE.com was registered in 1994. A full 2 years before the UAE's constitution was ratified so there is some legal precedent for the domain holder. UAE.net was in '96 & UAE.org was in '97. Again these domain holders have some precedent to stand on. UAE.info reg in 2002 is out of Dubai which was well into the timeline of their charter.

I am just stating that this is something to watch for.
