Porn.com domain sold for $9 million
By Jose Vilches, TechSpot.com
Published: May 16, 2007, 3:22 PM EST

MXN Limited recently acquired Porn.com for $9 million; this is the second largest adult domain transaction behind Sex.com.

The online adult industry is a huge business, according to a report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and Pricewaterhouse Coopers $16.8 billion was spent in 2006 and has a growth rate that remains above 30% a year. Not only that but in many cases porn has even helped new technologies take off – some say it helped the VHS format win the battle against Betamax.

The new owner is going to take their time to consider what long-term project plans they will take with Porn.com. They said, “It does not need to transform overnight. In the meantime, we will keep it parked with PremiumTraffic.com, a leading domain name monetization company”.

The domain name effortlessly attracts millions of unique visitors each month, making it one of the top type-in traffic adult entertainment destinations. Just a couple of months earlier the domain name was auctioned at Las Vegas but failed to reach the reserve price. Here are some details the owner of Porn.com gave to the crowd who attended the auction: Averages 26,000 clickthroughs per day to paid ads; earns between $2000 to $4000 per day; averages 50,000 unique visitors per day.

Moving forward poker.com is said to have a buyer above 20 million.
Everyone remembers Rick not being able to get a bid above 7 million for porn.com at the last traffic auction.
We will see some very nice sales in the next few years in all extensions.
Record setting sales. It is also my belief that .mobi will give the highest ROI of any extension in the next few years...

Records were made to be broken.

Regards,

PC

9 million was a steal for that. The thing makes well over 1 million per year in PPC, which will only increase exponentially as time goes on, not to mention other monitization, etc.

Good deal for the buyer

Keep in mind, it makes that much as a parked page...

Imagine how much it could potentially make if it were professionally developed, took in commissions to other popular adult site, etc

Same here. The likelihood of your stocks.mobi being worth say, $500,000 a few years from now, representing a 700% increase, is much more likely than the likelihood we see Porn.com fetching 63 million + (to achieve the same ROI) anytime soon.

Thanks for sharing, but it's in the wrong section as it doesn't have anything to do with .mobi
