Numbers In domain

Whats your thoughts on using numbers in domains ? I would think for mobi apps its almost a bonus to have #'s in a mobi domain to allow keying in names easier?

Numbers, as in NNN.mobi are indeed a bonus. Numbers, as in date1.mobi instead of date.mobi, obviously are a major detractor. It's all about how they're used. Just because something is easier to type-in, it doesn't mean that it's generally appreciated -- LLL.mobi are far more valuable than NNL.mobi, LNN.mobi, etc will ever be.

Agreed. Numbers in a name take more key strokes on a cell phone. IMHO, you should avoid it if possible. But some names , like a2z which i own, make sense.

thanks reece but what about use of # 4 and 2 like in tv4u heres2u as bad examples? Is it worth using these #'s within LLL mobis? or am I wasting my time and $ ? Should I just move my $ into better keyword mobis w/no #'s??? thx

Thx hedge . so you think that will matter for a user to type in one or two more numerals then if it wasnt in the domain? seems to me if you have a relavant site a user will like to always go back to to mobi that a number like 2 or 4 would not really matter much especially the user will add to their favourites anyhow and the site will not be always required to be typed in.

I have a few 3 L 1 N mobis I want to reg and I think they are pretty good but just need to see if I am wasting my $.

Hedgefund provided a very good example of a 3 character dotmobi which could be of value -- A2Z. But examples such as A2Z are few in number. As for using #4 and #2, they're certainly better than using some of the other numbers -- imagine tv7u.mobi or heres7u! IMO, you'd be better off moving your money into names without numbers in them. It's not that names like you suggested won't have value down the road, rather, that if you were to pool say 30 registrations like that together, you could spend $250-$300 on a single name and get a very good one which may be worth thousands, perhaps even tens of thousands down the road.

makes alot of sense reece. thx. Its so tempting to spend $8 now per mobi reg and end up with a ton of low value names after time worth the reg fee only. Your thoughts on buying higher value names now and holding may ultimately be the smart thing to do. I have read some many stories on people spending x $ on names and a few years later sell them for HUGE $ due to its quality.

The nice thing about high value names, is that your reg fees are much lower each year. Having 1000 .mobis will cost you around $8000-$10000 each year, whereas having 40, $250 .mobis would only cost you $320-$400 in future years. This method is alot safer also -- i.e. if something terrible in your life happened, you wouldn't have to worry about not being able to afford the reg fees and losing all your names.

The reg fees on 40 .mobis originally bought for $250 each is only $8-$10 per year, per .mobi, so it's in your best interest to have a small amount of great ones, than a larger amount of so-so ones. In both ways, you spent $8000-$10000, but if you spent it all on reg fee names, you'll end up with that same $8000-$10000 bill each and every year.

This post reminded me of using numbers to spell things out on a keypad. I started looking into this a while ago and noticed A LOT of keywords were gone using the numbers to spell it eg 42637.com=games. I have no idea in the value of these but I found this interesting site that has to do with this:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=327588
worddial.com http://www.worddial.com/?rew1=36245 (not my site).

I invested in these NNNN.mobi's since they spell some pretty good keywords plus they are all gone now (NNNN.mobi's).

6973.mobi nypd,nyse
9453.mobi wild
9627.mobi xmas
7483.mobi site
6387.mobi mets,nets
6289.mobi navy
6253.mobi make,male
5387.mobi jets
5243.mobi kage,laid
4639.mobi indy
3845.mobi evil
3267.mobi fans
9324.mobi yeah

I think this was a bit off your topic as you were talking about numbers mixed with letters but I thought I would give you another thing to think about.

thanks, Gary.

I thought about doing that myself, long and hard. Decided against it ultimately as I felt I didn't have sufficient time/resources to effectively market such sites.

I am in the process of using this idea with #'s to spell the word on the pad. It made the most sense to me at the time as I wasn't a big mobile type until I learned about it from this forum . My thought was that if you want something from a phone /pda then key the name of the site spelling the name with the #'s to match the keyword in your domains.

Sounded quite simple to me once I figured a few things out, well maybe I should say ALOT more than a few things. lol. So my project is a dir with about 30 sub-domains of each keyword linking to my xxxdir.com site / mobi site. The domains I own include approx 30 keywords with LN combined like xairlinex xantiquex, xmuseumx, xtaxix, xcleanerx, etc. Not sure of main beta site release date as yet so I cannot be more specific as yet.

i have been reading about this strategy for some time and am really missing something

how will advertise/promote these sites ?

let's say evil/3845.mobi, how will you promote that?

i can't beyond the problem you will have differentiating 3845.mobi from evil.mobi ..... if say "type 3845 (evil) on your keypad you're going to get half the people typing in evil.mobi

anyway, i wish you luck with it and a heck of a lot of people have done this so i am sure there is a way to make it work

I don't get it either since it's a URL and not a phone #. Hopefully someone can clarify it for us.

As for the OP, I think numbers and letters need to make sense together. 800numbers, Lucky7, WW1, WW2 are a few examples that come to mind.

Numbers can be powerful

Numbers can be powerful through Dot Mobi

In many cultures, numbers have deep meanings

For example, 888 might mean to somebody the heavenly number drop..

or the element oxygen has 8 protons 8 neutrons and 8 electrons.. the 8th element.. we need it for life..

..and in the Will, Greek Bible, 888 also is the spelling for Jesus numerically in Greek..

so what does this mean?

7778889741?

etc..

I am just learning, I am an American..

Kind Regards

Yelo

I am not doing anything with those NNNN.mobi's. Its just I wanted to invest in some and chose to get ones that spelled something. Who knows if this really is a selling feature yet?

This helped me a lot when I was researching them www.t9.com (again I don't own it). Its a keypad and you type in the number and it tells you how many words the number spells.
