Most Common Mobile Activity

Hello,

After spending awhile looking through records and conducting my own Poll. I have deemed that the most common use for internet browser on mobile devices is Reading News.

I myself find that I spend most of the time reading news on my PSP. It just seems new age to use a PSP rather than a newspaper.. Which is so last century.

What are your comments?

- Steve

I'm curious how this compares in North America, Europe, India or Asia. It's far too easy to project our own lifestyles, experiences and resources on other cultures. How will people with no PC use the internet via their mobile device? How about those on 1 hour train rides twice a day? I can't personally relate with either of these groups (nor could the salesperson at my local Cingular store) but there are literally millions of people with mobile phones who fit this description. These people could likely be some of the biggest users of .mobi sites.

a very valid point also! this factor has not yet been able to be taken into account through stats.

this is very interesting, i certainly agree that new sports and weather will be perennial winners but i also think that these will be big:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/319109-most-common-mobile-activity.html

-anything involving geolocation and gps for traveling, shopping and tourism
-using upc and barcodes for comparison shopping and tickets and product information
-electronic coupons for shopping i.e scanning a barcode from your cellphone)
-anything related to gaming, puzzles, wordplay
-i also think that short video clips for specific hobbies and interests will be big as well

i am guessing that the 1st wave will be uses like weather sports news and gaming

2nd wave will involve gps, barcodes and shopping

3rd wave will be mobile video

4th wave will be what i would call the "keyword" mobi's (i.e. non-mobile domains)

Keep in mind this "poll" and stats were taken from a Canadian perspective where surfing on the net over Cell Phones is almost stupid as 250mb's of transfer is $71+ depending who you use.. Compared to around $40+ in US.. Also where WiFi spots are only in major cities in certain parts and most require payment.

I am looking into doing more countries in this poll.

iNod, does mTLD have a similar, perhaps broader, poll ... and/or any research that you are aware of / can link us to ... that they've conducted on the most common mobile - and, thus relevance for developed .MOBI's - activities?

Thanks for your assist.

good point ......telus, rogers bell and fido seem to me to be the most retrograde phone providers, totally behind the curve and outrageously expensive

i guess since canada is the 2nd largest country in the world they can complain about the cost of building a network but these guys just suck

internet use costs will have to come way down for mobi to flourish

on the other hand the mobi tld approach to very simple, easy to use sites may give mobi an advantage
