These auctions seem a bit strange to me, to say the least:

SweetCorn.mobi -- $12,500 bid with a week left

WorldIsland.mobi -- $42,000 bid with a week left

Can't imagine where bids like these would have come from! Although I'm not one to usually go along with the conspiracy theories, something seems fishy here...I'd love to be proven wrong, though!

Seems LOTS of funny business at Sedo lately, IMHO ... and in particular with "bids" on .MOBI's and then auctions not closing, then reappearing, Whois's never updating, etc. Generally, I'd have to agree with you dagersh ... VERY fishy, indeed.

Sedo should really do something about this... It's really sad that 1 individual can choose to maliciously abuse the system in such a way. Can I just go and place a 1 billion USD bid on a domain name if I feel like it? They really need to put a system in place whereby you need some kind of evidence that you have the capacity to pay should you win.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But I believe that even eBay requires evidence of capacity to pay for transactions in excess of $10k USD. This could be easily fixed... Make people show capacity to pay and then charge them a 1% fee to be held until the auction is over. If they win, this amount will be counted towards the purchase. If they're outbidded, the 1% would be refunded to them. A $420 fee for the privilege of making a $42,000 fake bid would certainly make this an expensive joke

Then look at all the .info domains with all the hyphens in them.

These are supposed to be premium domains??? NOT A DAMN ONE OF THEM are premium and this show by the simple fact that NOT ONE OF THEM HAS A BID.

Well said. I find it much easier to just do a whois and pm the person/company owning a name I'm interested in. Then do the sale through escrow. Faster, smarter, cheaper...

These are definitely all a scam. The actual place in Dubai is called the World Islands, not the singular World Island which makes no sense. This name wouldnt even be worth $40. I own WorldIslands.mobi which is the actual name of the place and I am sure someone would have at least contacted me with an offer before they made a bid of $40k for a name that isnt nearly as good. Hopefully this person gets banned from this forum and Sedo.

Perhaps intentionally trying to make large .mobi sales to make the extension seem stronger than it is? Sadly, I see such actions having the reverse effect -- or is that the intention? Regardless, I don't see making fake bids as doing any good for dotmobi or the domain community as a whole. We need to have faith in the sales that are reported... Without that, how on earth can anyone actually guage the market? I've been increasingly frustrated with these fake bids we've been seeing lately and I wish something could be done to prevent this from continuing...
