Great find!

If .mobi is a scam as many profess it to be then mTLD is going through a hell of a lot of trouble to do it.

That's right.

This is a great interview because it gives us some more info on what mTLD has planned for Mobi and what exactly they are doing in Ireland.

Don't like this bit;

Quote:
He claims that, by the end of August, any sites that do not score a four or five in the MobiReady report will be removed. At that point mobile users can be confident that dot mobi sites will display effectively on their phones.
I'd better get a move on...
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=301854

And I think his figures are unrealistic - only 20% have been bought by speculators? More like 80% I'd have thought.

Dot mobi may have been a start-up when it opened its doors in Dublin last July but it had the luxury of 14 million in funding from some of the world's leading mobile players.

I like that quote. It ensures people won't get turned off by the extension when they look for pages with content. It ensures development

Yeah, I appreciate that - but there's no way I can develop 100+ .mobis by August!

Neither can I.

That doesn't neccessarly mean we can't redirect all of those names to a compliant page, or park those names temporarily at a mobi compliant parked page.

Kudos thinking1 for the find. Encouraging reading. Especially this part -
Quote:
The company has also reserved 60,000 premium addresses for itself which it is selling off in a variety of ways including live auctions at industry conferences.
I thought they only held back 5000 names!

OMG....that article flips me out.

Quote:
"We're here to create something big," he says matter of factly. "Potentially even bigger than dotcom because everyone has a mobile."
OMG he didn't just say that.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=301854

And now we have some insight from the investor standpoint. Most likely it was purely a money deal to invest. And between those companies to fork over 18 million is practically a joke. Seems their interest in mobi isn't as well-rounded as some think. It seems someone convinced them to fork over cash and they did. Oddly enough that's exactly what mTLD is doing to domainers...asking them to fork over cash. And it's working. So far mTLD is turning profit...how many mobi domainers can say the same?

this would be the same procedure for any venture capital transaction...convince people to put up some money...whats wrong with that?

Yes, but in our case remember we are only a cult of mindless lemmings, providing our financial sacrifice at the altar of .mobi. Oh great mobi, please make me rich. Oh great mobi, save me from KingCom. Mobi, mobi, mobi, mobi.....

You are trying to reason with someone who sees us in that light.

...And the sacrifice we provide to Mobi God. Don't tell that to mobi haters, it might scare them.
