From all the .mobis about to be auctioned on T.R.A.F.F.I.C. (including the silent auctions), ads.mobi has
the highest reserve price (100k-250k) and, although it is not a decisive factor, it IS a three letter gem, therefore, I'd put my money on it (in fact, I pre registered for it, along with many others of course...) as the highest .mobi sale so far...specially for being the least talked about....

Among the .coms....PORN.com will probably rule the conference with its reserve price on 5MM?
Any opinions?

Sorry, but I think this is a bit of a stretch for me. Actually, more than just a bit. High reserves don't equal high sales.

I'll take singles, realty, homes, pizza, etc over ads.

I do not fully share your enthousiasm for ads.com
While I agree it's one of the better names for me the .mobi with more potential is RealEstate.mobi

Ads is not a "popular" name, by this I mean it does not target the mass but only advertisers or publishers (this represents probably less than 0.1% of potential mobiles users).
At the inverse anyone over 18 years is concerned about real estate and there is a big business behind.

I will also add that the bigger online advertising actors are already well known and communicate through their own brand.
I know what I talk as I own a good series of these very popular advertising terms in the dot com.
Also people that search for advertising use to search advertising, not ads.
To finish, here again, at the inverse the term that better descrive real estate is real estate so yes this generic have a potential really but really higher then ads.

Now, who know?
Maybe I will be treaten of idiot when we will see the result.

You are right Jeff.

Here in France people have never hear about the dot mobi.

I even make a test last week:

I registered the mobi version of few french sites of importance and I contacted the owners for imediately resale the domains for few hundred dollars.
Result: No one sold.
Their response was mainly that even for reg fee they will not buy it.

Personally I am a fan of the dot mobi because even before the launch I thought they was promised to a good future because they are associated to mobile devices and everyone should have internet access from his cell in the near future.

But I have to admit today is still FAR to be the case even for site owners.

Also if you look at the .mobi sites already developped, it look likes a joke, they are really rare.

I suppose that we need to wait the next generation of mobiles (maybe the iPhone will be a booster) and here in France the launch of low cost plans of fast internet mobile access.

Few days ago we decided to create our first mobi site.
NeedContractor.mobi
(we run the com)

I have to admit that whaoo! all must be rethink and totally recoded for these small devices.
Small screens, all the tags, css and javascript code are not supported.
Some not even allow combo boxes, other not allow dialog boxes, ...
A true pain!
Plus it must works for different type of mobiles having different specs.
And here the site was really basic, mainly simply a request form.

After a day of hassles we did a pause.
Let see if we are more motivated and finish it for the next week.

So I can understand that some companies may be reluctant to do the first step and more when the user demand is still not here.

I've posted this thread after reading the complete list of names available on TRAFFIC for both live and silent auctions, and realizing that the .mobi with the biggest reserve price in the conference was the least talked about.
NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. THAT'S OBVIOUS.
I hope they all do well on Wednesday!
I really like ads.mobi and I believe it could be used wisely on the mobile context, but that's it. My opinion. Pizza.mobi, RealState.mobi, Cam.mobi and Casinos.mobi are all fantastic and I hope they do GREAT!
Of course I can be wrong about ads.mobi, and I might be...but it makes no difference, as long as some of the .mobis breaks the flowers.mobi record and more and more people get to know about the new extention on the news.

Probably it has been talk a lot of time here, I do not know.
But as an advertiser I am fortunate that the use of mobile have for the moment a low use.
Why?
Because AdWords and Overture (just to talk for the main ones), none offer a way to target mobile users or have our ads don't shown in these devices.

Today 99% of the sites are not viewable on cells.
When someone for example click a sponsored listing in a parked page the advertiser simply LOST MONEY .... Grrr!
As usage will grow it will be a real problem.
If ad networks do not anticipate then advertisers should be obligated to detect the visitor browser in their landing pages.
And for mobiles redirect them to a specific page:
This page could be a dot mobi gateway or simply a page of the site written for such browsers.
I still do not know what method will have the more success.

Quality, I certainly appreciate and often share your enthusiasm for the upcoming auction and the extension in general. Please forgive me if I came off a bit critical, but I just don't see the value of ads.mobi in particular when a) compared with the other .mobi names up for auction and b) viewed in light of the pressing problem posed for advertising on the extension in general given its speculative status, the lack of developed sites quantitatively, and its failure to take root in the mindset of the mobile internet using public. As a investor and someone trying to develop the names in my portfolio, I have a vested interested in what takes place in the coming weeks and months and how it affects the extension and my own holdings; but I also have an interest in being blunt about my concerns and trepidations surrounding .mobi and the money I've spent.
