Hi Guys,
as you may or may not be aware, just had longisland.mobi developed.
i had no plans to sell. need to delete it off sedo really, but just got an offer today. i'm guessing it is somebody off one of the forums, but it may not be. it's quite a strong offer for a first offer.
i had planned to keep the site & hoped in years to come have a nice established site & a big enduser may come in for it
what would you do? www.longisland.mobi
thanks
yeah, i hear you guys
i hadn't considered it, but you know what it's like being a domainer & you get an offer?
i think its someone off the forums shooting me an offer as most who know me (Pred on dnf) know i'm splitting with my 'chick' lol & need to raise finance currently
maybe i should wait. i mean looking at dnf this week, it has had masses of sale but no .mobis
after traffic i'm expecting a glut of offers, as always happens 7 activity will pick up
it is a holder isn't it?
I too am waiting for the auction on March 7. The more high dollar sales there are the more media attention .mobi will get. This will attract more and more people to inquire about the .mobi domain. There are so many people that still don't know about .mobi. Needless to say, I can't wait to see what happens after this next auction. Cheers!
I would keep it...at least until 1/2 of the premiums are released...Pinky said they would be released over a 2 year period, so not that long to wait and by the 1/2 way point many peeps will have heard of the ext. imho

thanks for advice guys.
actually had a nice sale this week which took pressure off, so no real pressure to sell.
a few people have pmed so i will say the offer was in the xxxx range
it hasnt tempted me, but am curious as to whether it may not be a reseller
Take the money and reinvest it in a bunch of little investments (diversify) or combine it with new money to 1) buy a bigger premium, or 2) develop and market something remarkable.
Money is like manure, you need to spread it around to make other things grow. Keep churning your investments. That's my 2 cents anywho...
This is an infant that needs to be nourished. This baby will grow. And grow it will. Way to early to sell a gem like this. Especially now that it is developed?
Not a chance, amigo. Dole out a few others to the masses. But this is one of the most highly prized strips of real estate on the planet which equates to real estate on the internet.
Donald Trump himself may want this piece of real estate you hold in your arsenal.
cheers
don't worry Guys.
I'm not selling. You have all spoken a lot of sense, thanks & had a lot of very helpful pms, cheers.
I will let the offer die off.
Unless they send me a 6 figure one! LOL
No offense, but I think you're all (except nombre & movingconcierge) drinking the same Koolaid. This is a .mobi we're talking about, right? Your market of potential buyers have several other tld's to make offers on before they get to .mobi. I think it's foolish not to at least make a reasonable counter-offer to sell when you have a serious offer on the table for this not so spectacular domain. Just my 2 cents, or thereabouts.
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.com would be worth?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.net?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.org?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.info?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.us?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.ws?
Give us some idea of what LongIsland.tv?
This is probably the order that you are talking about, correct?
Which one of those will fit onto you PDA or Cell phone screen?
3 billion cellular phones in the world.
How many hundreds of thousands of $$$ do you think LongIsland.com would cost, especially considering LongIsland.net is also re-directed to it?
LongIsland.mobi...developed website devoted to Long Island news, events, gallery, maps, shopping, and links. Live and online for perhaps 2 weeks. Already 20 google returns for "LongIsland.mobi"
If you have your PC or laptop with you in your travels, by all means click on the .com or .net site.
If you're in NYC or on or around LI in a cab, plane, subway, or train, what will you most likely have in your pocket?
It is a spectacular domain name. It appears you may have an issue not so much with the domain name, but the domain extension.
The Koolaid taste pretty sweet. :hehe:

Hi Guys,
thanks very much Circa, wise words mate.
I'm def. keeping. Really like site, much to do, & a couple of kind members have offered to add some content. It will grow organically i hope lol
I won't counter, i'll just let them keep offering, if they're interested.
If it's eyepopping then i'd have to take it. whwo wouldn't
who knows they may be reading this?
i wanted it as a developed mobi site & that's what she is. hopefully each & every one of us is developing at least one. i have two & plan another 6 at least before the end of the year.
let's hope the Traffic auction knocks 'em dead in mobi terms
i think last traffic auction was a bit of a washout for evryone really, couple of big wierd sales, but then there always is.
as for the silent, that's a waste of time. i love Moniker, but they should at least try & make the silent pages interesting & colourful & more interactive. it wouldn't be hard to do. thay are so drab, it's embarrassing for them
just my two cents
Wise move imo. You asked for opinions, you got a pretty good mix, .mobi fan or not it is difficult to need see the value and potential in this name.
It is a strategy. No one says you have to counter. Politely turn the offer down and be gracious and thankful to the party making the offer. Never burn any bridges. You're a pro, you know how to play by the rules. Just making this comment for the benefit of others.
.mobi is in its infancy and like it or not, this ain't no passing thing. This has a market all to itself, the mobile network and devices. It sole purpose of existance is to bring a formattable size compatible with handheld devices.
Already some great prices are being shelled out just for names. More developed sites like this are needed to bring notariety to the extension.
Once it's picked up, and picked up it will be, then that's all the buzz needed.
It's a gem, needing a little polishing and shining, but it is a gem.

Circa, you asked how much longisland.com might sell for? If put to market today I wouldn't be surprised if it went for over $1,000,000 considering Branson.com sold for $1.6 million last year. Certainly they are different types of locations but Long Island is a great place in its own right.
