Dudes, before the ad campaigns start & it trickles down to public mass knowledge (mobis..lol)
i am finding more & more smaller businesses are planning for their use.
Here's an example. A bar in san antonio. Now, once their site is live & the word gets around, a lot of other bars will follow suit.
Here is a GREAT advert on their main site advertising their forthcoming mobi site.
They are obviously building the site.
I checked & the mobi was regged at godaddy by them. http://www.maddogs.net/dot-mobi-web...i-web-site.html
The beauty is, these sorts of bars hand out thousands of flyers to youngsters every night with drinks offers etc. If the .mobi website is printed on that it can only help people to think about experimenting with otherwords.mobi
It's great in a lot of ways. It helps the environment as less bloddy flyers given out hopefully.
Also the way these resorts work, often you get to know barowners & you get a sort of loyalty & find the bars you like, so its not unreasonable to think they may give numbers to the staff if asked for promotions, or they could fill in forms on the back of flyers with their phone & email for example, then they have the numbers for promotion.
many return to the resorts the next year too, so they can check the sites , or email the owners etc
dunno, all possibilities. good forward thinking. wonder if the owner is a part time domainer? lol
It amazes me a little business has even heard of this and has a site already up and running. As Arnie states, the owner or maybe a person in management is probably a part time domainer. The .mobi site can only help the bar. The mobile market is one his competitors probably are not addressing, so good for them.
The word is getting out there, little by little, I just hope it doesn't get too big to soon. We need a lot more content and development before we let this cat out of the bag. Most of the best names are not even out yet, the last thing we need is for users to start typing in "keyword".mobi at this point. That would turn just about anyone off to the extension. I would guess a HUGE percentage of keyword mobis are just parked sedo pages with links to a non mobile compliant website.
Yep...mine too (Dutch keywords), but I don't believe in parking .mobi pages for the money.
Maybe it's better to create some standard mobi compliant page with a message saying that the domain is getting developed...come back soon...
The average 0.13 eurocents a month I earn on SEDO I can miss
yeah thats true. although there are millions of coms that haven't been developed since the late 90's & probably never will.
however, do agree, the more development the better. i'm doing my bit. i have a couple of sites done
Your right. I have had 175 hits already this month. The names are parked with sedo and I have not put any effort into them yet. I think it is time for dev.!
I've been getting more hits at sedo too. I was averaging about 1 to 2 hits a day for my sites and since last week I have been averaging 6 to 8 hits a day.
We need to hurry up on getting the content out there. We really must develop our best names. Everyone must do their part.
If you want traffic and eyes on the site then you need to link through to a few .com sites that are enabled for mobile devices. Later on down the line you can move over to more .mobi sites if you so wish once they are developed.
newton, this is helpful and leads to some observations
i used to have a palm which i wanted to access the web with but since i couldn't get what i wanted i strayed off into non-mobile sites and got a lousy experience so i sold the palm. i remembered that experience well which i am such a strong mobi believer
second, the palm screen and the phone screen are really 2 different spaces, i know that you can get a LOT more on a palm screen than on a nokia for example
so it's interesting to see how this will shake out
but your point is good, those sites you recommend should all look as good as mobi's on palm, phone or whatever small device
The links above took about 2 minutes to find on google, so they are out there and in abundance.
The main thing is to develop the sites, even simple static sites that have links to the rest of your mobile sites .. say 2 links reserved for your other .mobi domain names on each and every site you develop, which would create a nice big catchment area amongst your domains for the surfer, then all you need is advertising from admob.com.
This way you have sites up and running, linked through to sites like the ones listed in the links above for example, garnering traffic.
Good luck

Hi Chaps,
i just started tapping in a few random .mobis & its surprising how many sites are out there.
First one i pulled out my head was: www.seagull.mobi
Then i tried www.gull.mobi
Best thing about gull.mobi is goes through to a .com site & they're actively advertising visitnorway.mobi
that sites not built yet, but i suppose for many companies it takes months to get round to building sites. I'm gonna have a real good trawl round
