Dot Mobi signs new partnership

February 15, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- dotMobi (pc.mtld.mobi), the official registry for the .mobi domains, announced an Monday it has signed an exclusive partnership with Telecom Italia Mobile (tim.mobi), making them an official worldwide registry for the dotMobi domain as well.

Good luck to us all, especially those who have been here I see consistently since landrush times September 26, 2006.

I say keep looking at the whois, as this is a "once and only" time as the landrush treasure chest seems to be closing a bit.

Sounds great! But I wonder how they mean this:

"Later in the year, TIM will launch a new offering designed to let businesses go mobile via the development of .mobi versions of existing .com sites."

Are they going to help businesses obtain the .mobi version of their .com name, if they don't already own it? Or are they just going to develop the .com in such a way that it formats like .mobi when seen on a cellphone?

So my understanding is we have two official dotmobi registries, one is pc.mtld.mobi and the other tim.mobi, am I right?

This seems to me excellent news in particular regarding Italian .mobi names...Some very decent ones are still available actually...

Not sure if pizza.mobi is finally in the Traffic auction. But, when I say Italian names, I mean principally names targetting the Italian market...Pizza is broader than that...

If Google or Yahoo would start marketing .mobi, the impact would be worldwide...But, I feel sometimes that .mobi could become very important in some languages and not in other...It could be very important in Germany and insignifiant in Italy or vice-versa....The best names I have are in Italian, thus I'm biased here...
