.mobi hype

I'm not an active participant on other domain forums, but for those of you who are...

are you seeing .mobi as well received on other forums?

are they selling for comparable values on other forums?

I'm just curious if this is just a NP thing (and no one else understands) or if it is similar elsewhere.

I've had a few offers on DNF, but it seems like the highest support for .mobi is here. I don't know of any other place that:

1. has created a marketplace forum for .mobi
2. has held live .mobi auctions.
3. was able to get a representative from dotMobi to join a live chat.

Kudos to namepros for leading the pack.

I asked my wife if she'd heard of .MOBI last night. I deliberately did not talk to her about it before to wait a while and see. She works in IT for a fortune 500 company and spends a lot of time on the net, as do the people around her. She hadn't

there is much more talk about mobi on namepros than any other forum. more people selling, more auction, etc too.

RJ is responsible for arranging, and hosting the live chat with the .MOBI rep. He did an awesome job, and it seems he's always got a trick up his sleeve to surprise and delight NP members.

We are proud of the variety of forums and sub-forums we have. Not just here in the discussion section, but the domain sale forums too, where we have specialized areas for buying and selling Fixed Price, Make Offers, Auctions, ccTLD, Traffic, High-Price, and IDN domains. I think we do a good job of giving everyone a voice, and a space, and still having the flexibility to meet the demands of the latest big thing.

If she works IT in a fortune 500 company, she might not know about .mobi right now, but will by 2009.

I was reading an article in a trade magazine last night and they are predicting that there will be a mobile workforce of about 70% of the total US workforce by 2009. IT departments in the US will see a major transformation in their departments in short order. That is a guarantee.

How will this benefit .mobi? Those mobile workers won't have a office computer to download stuff from anymore. They will still continue with these activities but most likely it will be from the company mobile/DA/Smartphone/Lap Top.

I hate quoting from movies, but this quote seems to sum things up...

If dotMobi started marketing the extension to the public right now it would be a disaster and I would dump all my domains. Luckily they are not doing it but wait for development instead. Watching how it's been going so far, I strongly believe that .mobi will have a very very good future.
However, I also believe that there is some hype with domains that are not related to mobile usage. Songs.mobi may be worth 500K a few years from now (for example) but Mortgage.mobi will be much lower.
This is only IMHO and I may be totally wrong, because at this point it's just speculation.

Just read a prediction regarding shopping on your phone-
Was at the Doctors and waiting and read a money magazine.
An article caught my eye what they where predicting as big trends for the future-

Shopping on your phone was predicted to be big in the future and the article went on to say that it is already happening in Japan.

Ah no mention of my hard work on the 4 .mobi auctions

For right now actually it is all just hype to be honest. And nobody really can say it isn't. "A new extension, WOW!, Lets grab all the keywords possible and hope for the best" However. Myself and a few others believe that .mobi will succeed. But not until people begin to develop. That is the idea behind the company me and mirrorcube are starting. To bring the ability for people to easily develop and get their .mobi auctioned off, if they feel the need.

As any business owner I am baised because I want to begin a business in that market. But I hope people will follow in my footsteps, aswell as many others (MrRhee, Jeremy, etc) and lead the pack which we hope will soon create a new popular extension used by the mobile world. Globally.

The ability to type in a domain like shoppers.mobi and know it has to be mobile ready. Is well just an amazing thing. Sure .com's can have a script to redirect and waste more bandwidth on the end user. But it will still never be properly formatted and useful to the end user as 99% won't be that way, and never will.
