Lightbulb Is .mobi making you a better domainer?

I've found that through these past few weeks of .mobi mania, I'm getting better at seeing the quality of a domain name. Having so many great generic domains to choose from early on (and even now, if you look hard enough) and then having to weed down a long list of them to only the number of names I can afford at that time has made me better able to separate the wheat from the chaff. When I now look over the long list of available domain names in other extensions that I had planned to go back and register, I realize that I shouldn't even have considered at least 80% of them. And I'm much more hesitant about brandables now as a whole as well (even though I'm currently in the middle of negotiations for a decent sale of one).

I have a feeling that I won't be registering very many domains in other extensions from now on -- the availability of .mobi has spoiled me. If it isn't something close to generic, I won't be picking it up. No more combiznet.coms or onthestreetlive.coms (to name a couple that I've registered) for me! Although .mobi mania hasn't been kind to my wallet, I think in a way it WILL make me spend less down the road on other extensions. At least, that's how I'm going to rationalize this for now.

Anyone else seeing this in their own domaining?

You are absolutely right. In the last 3 months I've developed a keen eye for premium names mainly due to the fact that I've had the opportunity to buy nearly any name of my choosing. Obviously an opportunity like this is rare but the lessons learned have had a positive effect on my current (and future) registrations in all extensions. Win or lose, thanks .Mobi

.mobi opportunity still alive

I have been a domainer since January 1999, believe me, even back then it wasn't as good. Most close to generics were taken .com. In my experience, there hasn't been this type of domain opportunity with words available in such a great extension that I have ever seen. It's harvest time, still, as there are many great two word combos .mobi still available if you think smartly.

You are right.

Regards,
